jmr Posted October 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2006 Arne, impressive shot of an almost alien landscape.
stuny Posted October 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2006 Arne - Much better than the one I took of the same location. Terrific colors, light and framing.

harmsr Posted October 2, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Arne, Great shot & I have to "ditto" Stuart. (Much better than mine was last year.) The clouds intruding in really make this an interesting shot. Thanks for sharing, Ray
azzo Posted October 3, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 3, 2006 Arne, a very good image. It makes you feel you want to go downwards and explore more. Regards AZZO
fernando_b Posted October 3, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 3, 2006 Arne, besides the picture being very pleasant to me, I note that the professional photo CD gives excellent result. Kodak? Fernando.
imported_peter_m Posted October 3, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 3, 2006 Nice landscape Arne, The colors are lovely and so is the composition. Peter
arne_s Posted October 3, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted October 3, 2006 Hello, thanks @ all for viewing and comments. @ Ray and Stuart: Shot is taken later than 05:00pm. There's also a nice sunset up there, nut not in the crater. @ Fernando: The CD is from a AGFA Minilab, gives 6MP and imho very good colors, with less correction needed against other CDs and own scans, i tried before. Regards, Arne

lambroving Posted October 4, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 4, 2006 Arne, Really like the framing of this shot. Haven't been there for over ten years but assume you took this shot from the lower overlook? Perfect timing with the light and the cloud drifting in from the Hana Highway. Not sure how this looks on your screen, but on mine it looks a little "muddy" and appears to need a few minor adjustments. Hard to work from this small file without making a mess, but if you don't object, I'll give it a try. BTW, I use the same Agfa machine here which runs on Kodak chemistry. Kodak uses a similar machine and it does a fine job if you have a careful operator.
lambroving Posted October 8, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 8, 2006 Really like this shot..., so since Arne has not replied, I'll take a chance he won't mind... Welcome, dear visitor! azzo Posted October 8, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 8, 2006 William....I am guessing that you added some contrast and maybe you sharpened a bit ? Regards AZZO
andybarton Posted October 8, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 8, 2006 You can definitely see the sharpening degredation along the ridge, but William was playing with the web version, so anything he did would be on a very small original file size. There's nothing wrong with the original, which is a lovely shot, IMHO.
wbesz Posted October 8, 2006 Share #17 Posted October 8, 2006 Very nice image and taken at an excellent time day ( I rode a bike down from this crater on a rainy day).
lambroving Posted October 8, 2006 Share #18 Posted October 8, 2006 Andy, Very true about working on a tiny file, but if the original looks good on your screen, maybe Arne is on a Mac too!!! The detail of which that lens is capable is also missing though. You can see how much more is visible of the far rim on my slightly sharpened, levels adjusted edit. Know you have to suffer with R-gear..., so maybe you DON'T know... Allan looked at this earlier on his lap-top before I posted it and agreed that it looked better on a PC. Seriously, if you look at it on a PC at work tomorrow, my edit is the way I remember that light at that spot. Took a few snaps of a newly-wed couple at this angle with their Nikon F and somewhere here I have an 8x10 they sent me.
andybarton Posted October 9, 2006 Share #19 Posted October 9, 2006 Andy, <snip> Know you have to suffer with R-gear..., so maybe you DON'T know... Oh do give it a rest. You might be interested to know that I took as many shots with my M2 on Saturday as I did with my R. Or maybe you might not. However, I will not be offended by your implied insult to R-users, as your prejudice against them/us is well known. I know what I see with my own eyes. Every shot I look at, looks better on any of my Macs than on the PC. Even yours. Given that you never see your shots on a Mac, IMHO, it is clear that you don't know what you are missing. Allan looked at this earlier on his lap-top before I posted it and agreed that it looked better on a PC. Took a few snaps of a newly-wed couple at this angle with their Nikon F and somewhere here I have an 8x10 they sent me. I didn't realise that Allan had a Mac as well as a PC. Have you considered that maybe, just maybe, the light at that spot was different the day you were there?
andybarton Posted October 9, 2006 Share #20 Posted October 9, 2006 Seriously, if you look at it on a PC at work tomorrow, my edit is the way I remember that light at that spot. Took a few snaps of a newly-wed couple at this angle with their Nikon F and somewhere here I have an 8x10 they sent me. OK, I have now looked at the shot at the PC at work. Obviously, I cannot tell what you saw 10 years ago, or what you can see on your 10x8, but both images look worse here than they do at home. Clearly, this is a pointless discussion unless and until you can see what I can see and vice versa, which would require us to be in the same room with your monitor and with mine. I am not quite sure why you continue to bring this up.
