jaapv Posted September 25, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted September 25, 2008 Only problems if you don't follow the instructions, especially the 3 sec wait. otherwise everybody is quite enthusiastic.
4season Posted September 25, 2008 Share #3 Â Posted September 25, 2008 I've encountered a problem with the file naming getting reset to 0001 if I erase the card with the computer, then start shooting without reformatting it in the M8. Otherwise, 2.0 seems to be working fine, and I see no reason not to use it.
stunsworth Posted September 25, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted September 25, 2008 The renumbering happened to me too - except it reset to 10,001 rather than 1 - I was past 16,000 frames, the folder name used on the card changes once you get to 10,000. That was with the card formated in the camera. No big deal for me.
cme4brain Posted September 25, 2008 Share #5  Posted September 25, 2008 I am about to up-date my firmware, but has anyone had any problems with the new firmware? Thanks   I have not updated my firmware to 2.0 nor am I going to. Read the threads about persons damaging their cameras with the update, and they swear they DID wait the stated three seconds! The AutoISO feature is not enough for me to risk even a one in 10,000 chance. Nope- the AutoWB was fixed with the last update, and I am not foolhardy enough to place all my pictures on a singe 32Gb SD card, so the update offers nothing substantial to me and some non-zero risk of damage. Ain't doin' it.
Jamie Roberts Posted September 25, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted September 25, 2008 My overall impression so far is that v2.0 of the firmware is excellent, and less buggy than the previous one, especially regarding I/O and electrical. Auto ISO is sweet, and so is the new card formatting speed and capabilities. Â For the very first time ever with my M8, I only used 2 batteries at a full-day wedding instead of 3 Â Coincindence? I don't think so. Â As for people breaking their M8s with a firmware upgrade, there have reports of that happening with every firmware version. It happens when you have a corrupted firmware file, for the most part.

Ain't doin' it. Actually there have been less reports of M8's becoming bricks updating to the new firmware, version 2.0, then with older firmware updates. IIRC there has only been one. There was another thread about a camera being brick doing a FW update but that was from a corrupted card and that person, Hans, was loading version 1.201. Â So you will never do another firmware update on your M8? You will stay with version 1.201 forever. Â I say update it. I did on 2 M8.

It happens when you have a corrupted firmware file, for the most part.  Let me pull the barbs out of your back.... I plan to upgrade to the new fw shortly.  Glad to hear about the battery life. I shot for 7-8 hours on Sunday, using 3 1/2 batteries (only to the last segment, of course), with dng-only and review on at 3 seconds. I got about 900 shots or so.  My big problem was with my Quantum turbo 2x2 battery pack. I ran it dry and the backup I rented didn't function properly and I was reduced to AA power in the strobe. That's a little inconvenient.  For those complaining about the quality of M8's: just for the record, I did not have to unwrap my backup M8 that sat in the bag all day.  The only other problem is that my feet hurt on Monday.... Otherwise, 2.0 seems to be working fine, and I see no reason not to use it. THANK YOU (repeat n+1 times, where n is large). I was getting highly irritated with fact that numbering did not continue where it left off if I deteted the files in the card reader (which is the way I prefer to work). I just now used the C1LE transfer wizard with delete after transfer enabled, put the SDHC card in the camera, formatted and bingo!! The numbering proceeds in the intended way where it left off before. Â So you can delete the files in the card reader so long as you remember to format the card in the camera before taking the first picture. It still remains a very strange fault in FW 2.000 but I guess they will deal with it sometime. This workaround is good enough for me & I am a happy camper (at least for the moment). Â All the other features of FW 2.000 are highly recommended by the way. Use it you will not regret it.

All you have to do in FORMAT the card IN the camera before you take your next shot and the numbering will continue. Which if you do format in the camera why bother deleting images off the card when transferring. Different strokes for different people.
JHAG Posted September 25, 2008 Share #18  Posted September 25, 2008 This update and the previous one worked perfectly for me. I noticed that with the last firmware, all my subjects now have a moustache. Wonder why…

I agreed with you that formatting in the camera allowed the numbering to continue BUT your suggestion did not indicate that this also worked after deleting the files in the card reader. I do not object to formatting the card every time I load one in the camera (well, actually I do but its not a big deal), but I do object to deleting files in the camera by formatting or otherwise.
