Advertisement Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Hi zanydave, Take a look here Trams. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted October 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2006 David - Lovely, luscious shots with delicious tones (especially #1). However, I want to see them bigger.
beramos Posted October 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2006 Dave, Excellent shots. I prefer the light of the first and your composition. The focus, tone and depth are marvelous.
harmsr Posted October 2, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2006 Dave, Both shots are very good but #1 is captivating. Well done, Ray
zanydave Posted October 4, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted October 4, 2006 I'm posting these again but in their original state as It has been mentioned they would be better in colour. What do you think?
andybarton Posted October 4, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2006 Dave Hard to choose, I'd say. Probably the B&W by a short head. You're really getting a handle on the DMR, I see. (Have you changed the default sharpness, contrast etc settings yet?)
zanydave Posted October 4, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted October 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Andy. Not changed any of the default settings as yet. You have been using yours longer, what would you recomend? Dave.
andybarton Posted October 4, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 4, 2006 I have left mine on the default settings and adjust in Photoshop or Capture 1. When I scan, I try to get a flat image out of the scanner and then adjust in PS to my taste - so this is fine by me on the DMR too.
abrewer Posted October 4, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 4, 2006 I thought I commented favorably on these when you just had the B&W up, Dave, but I guess I didn't.... I really like the color photos best. The saturation and hue strike me as being remarkably correct for your subject in these conditions. Great sharpness in the capture, too. Thanks for sharing. I hope you'll post more of your "zaniness" for us to admire! Allan
elansprint72 Posted October 4, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 4, 2006 Can't choose between them, #1 is great in both versions. I was taken, as a very small boy, to ride on the trams in Liverpool during the last week that they were operating. Anyone remember the trolley bus? Used to cause a great deal of disruption in Manchester if the driver had to take avoiding action and became "off his trolley", they had to send for a heavy-duty tow tractor to bring the bus back to the overhead cables. Cheers, Pete.
andybarton Posted October 4, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 4, 2006 Reading used to have trolley buses too. They must have lasted until the late 60s I'd say. We used to ride on them when we went Christmas shopping. I am pretty sure they used to have diesel engines as well as electric motors, so that when they got to the end of the catenary system, they could continue their journey. I might be wrong, though. elansprint72 Posted October 4, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 4, 2006 This is the sort of thing I remember, from Googling (amazing what some folks are interested in) it looks like this one only had electric power but you're probably correct about other places having diesel too. Pete.
wda Posted October 4, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 4, 2006 I prefer #1 for overall quality in both bw and colour versions. Very bold and interesting. #2 is not in the same class. Probably due to the angle of the lighting and darkish exposure. David
biglouis Posted October 7, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 7, 2006 Pete Don't get me started on trolley buses, or "dolly" buses as I mispronounced them when I was about 6 years old. I used to take one to and from school near Uxbridge when I was a very small boy, in the care of my sister who was probably only 9 or 10 at the time. I loved the way they glided almost silently and was amazed at the intricacy of the overhead wires. We always tried to sit up top on the front seats with that fantastic panoramic view of the road ahead. Then, one Monday morning in what must have been 1961 or 1962 my father dropped me and sister on the Uxbridge Road in Hayes to take the trolley bus to school only to find that they had all been replaced over the weekend by brand spanking new red Routemaster buses. I was devastated by the loss of the trolley bus and have never trusted weekends since. It is sad to admit it but I have an old Matchbox model of a trolley bus sitting in my drawer as we speak. They say therapy could help! LouisB
