malcolm Posted October 2, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apologize if this has already been covered. Per "official" Leica M8 brochure I got yesterday, "6 bit-functions Lens dependent reduction of system-specific vignetting. Identification of picture file with lens information to simplify digital archiving. Coordination of flash reflector with motor zoom flash units. Auto slow sync function with automatic mode." I assume "picture file" is for JPEG only. Finalized firmware (Photokina M8's apparently had version 1.04), may change this.
Advertisement Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Hi malcolm, Take a look here 6-bit Lens Coding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted October 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2006 Do we know yet if the lens 'correction' will be carried out in RAW mode also, and if not, will the accompanying software allow such conversions? Assuming this is the case then it won't matter so much if one has an uncoded (but supported) lens.
