rob_x2004 Posted October 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2006 Raises a question Vic. When one goes to location, do you take a Leica and look for that one moment for the single frame, or do you go the AFdigital route and machine gun a particular scene because amongst it all you will get 'that one special moment' bullshit. My thoughts are turning to 'go with the technology' flow. Be robust enough of character, to get in there with a camera that is as obtrusive as a house brick, and behave as you want the subject to respond. Take plenty of images, you will get one good frame. And that is all you need. Judicious editing will then take you into that Leica glow if that is your thing. I think it is more important to actually get the image. In aside, they reckon Friedmann could step into any situation and take candids with a press camera, he set his subjects so at ease, they often didn't even remember the taken image. So they say, children, adults, soldiers. I don't know that, I wasn't there. But that is what those interviewed said. Jonas's site is a good look because it encourages to look past 'ohh that creamy bokeh stunning clarity' shit that seems so important when your photography is lacking. There are a lot of places like this out there. But how do you shoot for it if you don't appreciate it is there. We should reference good sites more often. rob_x2004 Posted October 3, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2006 I guess one of the things I like about his stuff is the stark use of shadow within his frame. How often have you moved to avoid a shadow rather than look for a way to expressively include information that is out of frame? One example, Welcome, dear visitor! vic vic Posted October 3, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted October 3, 2006 hi rob,, :-) sorry man - i cannot understand u clearly... maybe im a little drunk :-)))) what the hell r u talking about leica now... who gives a shit whith what camera he made those photos.. i dont even know what camera exactly he uses, and seeing his photos this is the last thing that im concerned about :-)))) i know this culture he deals with.. i was exposed to it at some extent.. both to rrussian and to jewish and to jewish-russian... this man really has great senses and great photos i can say it from my knowledge both about photography in general and about the subjects he deals with.... about what camera and technology... man, use whatever u want, i dont mind... i use what i want.... personally - i love leica camera the most... i can give u milion resons why i love it but who cares.. i just love to photograph with it... if u feel the same about your AF machine - well - this is your choice :-))) u dont like bokeh (this is out of focus rite) dont do it... u love it then do it :-))))) man... photography is languege... best photographers create languege... jonas photos are not a creation of new languege (like koudleka made, or some others have their own unique attitudes) - i agree with u of u mean something like that... but the languege he uses... well he makes it great (really great, without any extra-superlatives). about behaviour while photographing... well... defenetly agree with u... i mean 100%%. i also do create interaction with my scene or subjects... not always screaming... sometimes my place in the scene is moderate, sometimes vulgar... but it is always there, and im always aware of it.. it is part of being photographer - defenetly. im not a "crazy" about "transcendental observations" (usually at least.. sometimes it is fun though) :-)))))

frc Posted October 3, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 3, 2006 Recenly Drake, now Bendiksen: LCUF has recently turned to being a splendid source of new,to me anyway, photographers. Again someone that doesn't ride along on the colour corrected, sharpened and over PS'd mainstream of present photography. Yeah Vic, I love this blokes work a lot. May he have shot these images with a Canon multi shot sniper gun, I'll sell all of my Leica stuff ;-( Fr.
vic vic Posted October 3, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted October 3, 2006 ya.. i use photoshop that much too.. prefer other great softwares that give u a real photographic look... anyway.... frc.. u choose your cameras according to other photographers :-)))))) why should u throw leicas :-))) i see photographers who use much better digital stuff than canons and alike and i do love their works, but that doesnt mean that i will throw my film cameras :-))))))))))

Guest stnami Posted October 6, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 6, 2006 VIc You let your heart rule on this thread and maybe a few sherbets(drinks) too many. Rob was being posiive about the photography........too much defense on your part Vic and a panic ridden offensive. The site sits nicely with my image mentality, not asking too much nor is it ramming specifics down one's throut ps How's your site coming along?
