Ned, not really ... ;) The M4-P/M7 do a quite good job for me. :)

I have recently tested an M8 but the shadow noise at high ISO ... Fuji Natura1600 / M7 did a better job. :D

This particular 50mm lux preasph is a spectacular performer. The focus feel is outstanding and the focus accuracy is right on. Wide open photography with this lens is a gem!
I agree with Ned's assessment of this lens. I got one recently and sold my much-loved E43 v.2. In addition to the attributes that Ned describes it has a much shorter focus throw than the E43 version. The focus is incredibly smooth in feel and it seems to be pretty much a perfect all-round 50mm.

My first Leica. I was falling in love very soon, after I got it in my hands. Meanwhile I noticed that it needs a CLA. The Jupiter-8 will be replaced the next months by a Summicron.....Damn, I can't wait to go out with it again. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Here are the two Ms I currently own.

The first is a 1965 M3 that I purchased in 1978. I had, I believe, two previous M3s, and worked and saved my way up to this one, which was in much better condition than the prior two.

Next is the M6 I purchased in 1985. I traded in the M4-P I'd bought the previous year.

One of my user M3s in on route to Solms for a CLA and possible housing replacement (depending on how much it is :))... Is that what they did to your M3? It looks brand new!

Cheers,
