Advertisement Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Hi okram, Take a look here The new M8 - 2.0 Firmware is online. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted September 18, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 18, 2008 Yes, of course. I've tested with a cron 50, an apo 90 and a lux 35. I have also tested with milich coded CV and I can't get the value in both M8 Are you sure you have lens detection turned on? I just updated my M8 and noticed I had change the menu defaults to what I normally used. Lens detection by default was off. Robert
okram Posted September 18, 2008 Share #23 Posted September 18, 2008 No way back. No downdate to previous versions. Can somebody who has two- test high iso, and compare the two FW...maybe the performance now is as D3 or 7G mark VII
Leon S. Kennedy Posted September 18, 2008 Share #24 Posted September 18, 2008 Does any one have a list of the new supported memory cards? I have the old PDF with all the SD cards that are supported so would like to know which SDHC cards are now supported. I only have a SanDisk Extreme II SDHC 4GB Card and that works. Edit: NM just seen geoff's post about the SDHC cards
Shootist Posted September 18, 2008 Share #25 Posted September 18, 2008 Yes, of course. I've tested with a cron 50, an apo 90 and a lux 35. I have also tested with milich coded CV and I can't get the value in both M8 ALL setting are ReSet with loading the 2.0 firmware. You have to go in and reset everything. That's why your not getting the lens info. The Lens detection is set to off. Camera turn on much faster. I've setup a user profile for A-ISO, actually 2 U-P. One for JPG B&W+DNG and the other for DNG only. Then I have my standard U-P for DNG only ISO 320. Formatting of cards seems much faster. All in all I think this is a great update. I'll use A-ISO as now I can set my lenses to max aperture and it will drop the ISO to the lowest. But I'll have to check on that to make sure you don't have to go to 1/8000 before the ISO goes down to 160.
ArtZ Posted September 18, 2008 Share #26 Posted September 18, 2008 Are you sure you have lens detection turned on? I just updated my M8 and noticed I had change the menu defaults to what I normally used. Lens detection by default was off. Robert Yes, Robert, after flashing firmware I checked the settings and I noticed that detection was off. I put it back to "ON /UV+IR" I have corrected my previous post. I suspect I had a problem with the SD card I used to upgrade the first time (I used the same SD card and the same firmware file on both cameras). I have used a new SD card and download the again the firmware from Leica and now both M8s are working properly. Thanks

robsteve Posted September 18, 2008 Share #29 Posted September 18, 2008 Is it just me that is finding the 2500iso usable now ? It is looking like the file quality has jumped, similar to how the latest DMR firmware improved the high ISO on the DMR. Robert
ndjambrose Posted September 18, 2008 Share #30 Posted September 18, 2008 Is it just me that is finding the 2500iso usable now ? I haven't installed the FW yet but if 2500iso looks anything like Okram's picture above then I think it's still a long way from being usable. How often do you print? This is 1250, and in 25" inkjet print would be barely noticeable.Mind that this sensor keeps a LOT of detail in high ISO- that goes with low noise red. in process. If exposed properly- M8 file is actually very good at 1250.(for my needs) The other problem is low correction latitude of these files- that is really bad. badpets Posted September 18, 2008 Share #34 Posted September 18, 2008 the problem what happens when the number goes beyond 1000? i just inserted my 16G and and set to JPG Fine mode, it still stays 999. I have inserted a 16GB and I can see on the LCD "999" :-)
stunsworth Posted September 18, 2008 Share #35 Posted September 18, 2008 Is that really a problem? When the number starts to be displayed you'll still have 998 shots before you need to change the card. That should last a reasonable while. Well when the counter get to 100 put another card in. Otherwise why are you worrying about it. You'll need to change the battery 3 times for it to take 999 images. geoff Posted September 18, 2008 Share #37 Posted September 18, 2008 I have inserted a 16GB and I can see on the LCD "999" :-) Oops! That's a problem. Only three digits. Should be around 1520 with .DNG format. So we don't know the count until after the 998th shot. Geoff myspace.com/geoffotos
Overgaard Posted September 18, 2008 Share #38 Posted September 18, 2008 Any change in sound? And I would love to see a 2500 and 1250 ISO file / RAW download taken with proper WB set.
badpets Posted September 18, 2008 Share #39 Posted September 18, 2008 well, i guess it's not really a problem after all. i'm just glad that it writes so much faster now with SDHC card. Is that really a problem? When the number starts to be displayed you'll still have 998 shots before you need to change the card. That should last a reasonable while. You will just have to do as you did in the film days. Count up In other words, when you hit play, it will display how many images you have taken, just like a frame counter on a film camera. The M8 will then help you and warn you when there are less than 1000 frames left Robert
