stuny Posted September 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Luck frequently smiles on us when we travel. As we drove through the back streets of Mandalay we saw a rather festive looking tent and gathering. San, our guide told us it was an initiation ceremony for little boys and girls going into the Buddhist monastery and convent, and said we should visit. We were warmly received and continually offered food and drink – it increases the honor for the families of the initiates to have more people there, especially exotics such as foreigners. The initiates, too were delightful, though one girl seemed frightened about the change. It’s understandable, and we felt bad for her. Others excitedly involved us in conversation and posing. and they loved Barbara's Polaroids that she gave to them. Pictures are of the musicians and initiates. You can see more of Mandalay on the 3rd and 4th pages of our Myanmar photos.

I agree with Gerhardt on the colors and exotic feel of the surroundings. # 2 is also my favorite.I also like the capture of the Chevy Chase electrical wiring in the fist shot!
