grober Posted September 28, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, Solms. All the buzz from Photokina about the M8 looks encouraging but WHEN will Leica officially release some definitive images from the new baby? It's time... Advertisement Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi grober, Take a look here Dear Leica: WHEN will we see M8 images?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicapfile Posted September 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2006 When the firmware gets tweaked. I think a lot of folk had better get their Oohs and Aahs ready. Jerry
grober Posted September 29, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted September 29, 2006 Yes, Jerry. But WHEN will they finish tweaking the elusive firmware? Ugly or not, the new baby has to be shown to the many relatives in the waiting room sometime. The last day of Photokina presents a fine platform for this pixel unveiling, don't you think? frc Posted September 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2006 Patience is what's to be practised. I do this with an early friday evening beer. Cheers, Fr.

marknorton Posted September 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2006 The lastest leaked image is much more encouraging than the previous images but I certainly agree we need some sample raw images to whet our appetite and get Capture One all fired up... abrewer Posted September 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hang on guys. We have several Forum members at Photokina with Leica. My intuition tells me it won't be long now. Thanks. Allan
earleygallery Posted September 30, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2006 Some images were printed in the BJP magazine last week.
jonoslack Posted September 30, 2006 Share #9 Posted September 30, 2006 Some images were printed in the BJP magazine last week. I saw them - but it's impossible to tell from a magazine print. Patience may be a virtue, but it's not one I have! On the other hand - it's only worth seeing beta firmware samples if they're good - bad ones do nothing except give the camera a bad start to life (witness the Kodak 14n which ended up being quite good). wilfredo Posted October 2, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2006 "The proof is in the pudding." If we don't have images it's because Leica doesn't have anything convincing to show at this time. I hope that changes soon. I'm eager to see what this new M camera will deliver. Until then, I can't really begin to consider making a major, major, purchase for a new Leica (not to mention a new wide-angle Leica lens). I'd also like to see tests with Voiglander lenses. Guest smep Posted October 2, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 2, 2006 I am looking forward to see available light pictures of the M8. The official pictures seen until now don´t say anything about the high iso performance of the M8. The M-System was the best for available light so i hope the M8 will be very good in this range. Guest malland Posted October 2, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 2, 2006 I can say with certainty that we'll have them when they're ready. This is one of the more absurd threads here. —Mitch/Potomac, MD
leicaleica Posted October 2, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 2, 2006 There is NOTHING absurd about wanting to see at least some DECENT iso160 and iso320 raw files while they are fiddling with the refinements for the rest. Many of us would like to see a bit of convincing material prior to making a purchase decision, especially in light of all the rumors that are flying around!! sean_reid Posted October 2, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 2, 2006 The latest word I have from Leica is that review cameras (production firmware) will be going out in the USA after 10/15. Cheers, Sean
leicaleica Posted October 3, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 3, 2006 Thanks, Sean, you have a calming influence on us! We'll try to be patient a little bit longer. Your latest reviews are fabulous, as usual, looking forward to Part 2. Jerry Clausing
rvaubel Posted October 3, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 3, 2006 The latest word I have from Leica is that review cameras (production firmware) will be going out in the USA after 10/15. Cheers, Sean Well if I have to wait, then I must spend the next two weeks speculating about the 4 pictures we do have WE HAVE *The GIRL @ ISO 320* Virtually noise free. Resolution around the eye and chin to die for. The best of 4. RAW *The CELL PHONE @ ISO 320* Looks pretty good but requires hours of more analysis. RAW *The HALL #1 @ ISO 160* Not too bad considering it's underexposed, shot into the light and crooked. The first of the purloined pixes. JPEG * The HALL #2 @ ISO 1250 Same as HALL #1 except shot at ISO 1250. Shows some noise that easily cleans up with no lose of sharpness (Neat Image). My favorite because it shows that a underexposed picture @ 1250 ISO can be salvaged. JPEG *Erwin Puts's bad JEPGs. Not much use since he forgot to focus the camera. He does have an interesting shot of what happens when you take a picture of a star pattern with a camera without an anti-alising filter. You get a moire pattern. DUH!!! To say that there is a dearth of photos out there to over analyse would be putting it mildly. But beggers can't be chosers:D Rex arf
leicaleica Posted October 3, 2006 Share #17 Posted October 3, 2006 Rex, I've seen all of these lovely pieces (none of which are good photographs) except for HALL #1. Could you give me the URL for that one? BTW, this is exactly as poor an introduction via pictures as Epson gave the R-D1. In fact, I thought the early R-D1 pics were taken by people with severely impaired eyesight. Jerry

Jerry Yah, you'd think that Leica would let a few pictures "leak" into circulation just to counter the bad ones. However, have you ever noticed that when the manufactures actually end up publishing official pictures, they're bad too? It's the same way when people post pictures of there photo equipment to sell on the internet. Always out of focus . Rex
