Advertisement Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hi cbretteville, Take a look here Delkin charger - M8 (All posts merged). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2008 My response from Delkin: Hello J. J. Vl******, They are in development as you read this. The plates have to go through a testing process but should be released rather soon. Unfortunately I do not have an exact date as of yet. Best Regards,
caparobertsan Posted August 27, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 27, 2008 oh That is great news. I can leave my M8 charger and my modified charger at home. But My M8 have to go back to Germany!!!!

chris_tribble Posted August 27, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2008 My response from Delkin: Jaap - were you talking to Delkin's people in Europe? This will be really useful when it happens. I've got various trips coming up when I have to carry both Canon 5D and M8 based systems. Only needing one charger will be really helpful weight and bulk wise. Guest DuquesneG Posted August 27, 2008 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's great news. I've got the Ansmann Digicharger Vario that works with all batteries without the need for any adaptor plates, but it does require remembering where the +/- contacts are on each type of battery, and relocating the charger's contacts manually. This one sounds like there's less thinking involved...not always a bad thing when we're in a hurry! In any case it's nice that other manufacturers step up to offer us a charger of more reasonable size compared to the little M8 battery. I wonder if the Leica charger was designed by committee @ Leica, or just approved by one. Either way I can't imagine that anyone who actually travels with a camera was involved. steich Posted August 27, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 27, 2008 @DuquesneG: AFAIK, the Ansmann is foolproof - it tests the battery´s polarity before charging starts. So no need to check +/- on the battery yourself (if Ansmann tell the truth). Regards, Stefan

Regards, Stefan Yes you could get the +/- mixed up but you still need to know which are those two if the battery has more than two contacts. steich Posted August 27, 2008 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2008 Just shortcut them. If the battery glows, you´ve got the right contacts ;-)
photolandscape Posted September 23, 2008 Share #11 Posted September 23, 2008 OK, Leica has a new charger, but it looks a lot less desirable than the Delkin--if and when we can ever get the battery plate for the M8. Does anyone have an update on this? I really want one--it's cheap, light, smaller, and twice as productive as the Leica brick. Bring it on Delkin. photolandscape Posted September 24, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 24, 2008 I told my source I wouldn't reveal his name, but--I learned today that the charging plates that will fit the M8 battery are still under development. It will be at least one month before they will ship and become available. So we will have to be patient.
Shootist Posted September 24, 2008 Share #13 Posted September 24, 2008 well I'll reveal my source. It's Delkin Customer Support. I sent them a note about 2 days ago. Hello Ed Chatlos, The Leica M8 battery charging plates should be available in about 4 weeks and will be on our website at that time. Battery Chargers :: Batteries :: Delkin USA Hope this helps and have a great day! Best Regards, Robert Kimball Customer Service Delkin Devices Inc. 13350 Kirkham Way Poway, CA 92064 (800) 637-8087 Toll Free The bad part is similar info was posted that it would be out the middle of September. Now that Leica has changed the charger from the original brick to a much smaller one Delkin may be dragging there feet.

vanhulsenbeek Posted September 25, 2008 Share #15 Posted September 25, 2008 They're not. Yes they are not, as the first two posts said; we have to wait another month
Shootist Posted September 25, 2008 Share #16 Posted September 25, 2008 Yes they are not, as the first two posts said; we have to wait another month Don't really know what the last 2 posts are about but IIRC there was a post in the middle of August stating that the plate would be ready in mid September. Now they arre saying end of October. Just how hard is it to make a plate that holds the M8 battery and connect to 2 terminals on the battery. marknorton Posted September 25, 2008 Share #17 Posted September 25, 2008 You tell us Ed, you seem to know most things. Besides, with the new M charger coming out, why would they bother?

Yes, the Leica thing looks cool indeed - but the Delkin is just 60$ and a DOUBLE charger... Regards Stefan
fotografr Posted September 25, 2008 Share #20 Posted September 25, 2008 Now that Leica has changed the charger from the original brick to a much smaller one Delkin may be dragging there feet. The one from Delkin would have to be considerably less expensive than the new one from Leica, don't you think? Anyone seen a price from Leica yet?
