Advertisement Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Hi ijporter, Take a look here Male King Parrot. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted September 27, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2006 Ian - Nice colors, details and bokeh. On our first trip to Oz we marveled at both the birds and at how the Aussies didn't much notice them since they were so used to them.
ijporter Posted September 27, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted September 27, 2006 We used to live on the northern fringe of Sydney and backed onto a bushland valley. We used to get so many native birds in our back yard - among them King Parrots like the one pictured. Another that we used to get is the Eastern Rosella, which is - to my mind - one of the world's most beautiful birds. Then we got a puppy and that was the end of the birds coming in. leicamann Posted September 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2006 Lovely...remember because of the extreme color and dynamic latitude of Kodachrome...what looks like a perfect red and exposure will translate from the scanner as a "blown red"..this is false...and also a false assumption from viewers who don't know how K64 behaves in some scanners. May I suggest you scan as "flat as possible a scan or even scan RAW and do your own conversion...you'll get better results. Also recommend a Q60 Target slide..that helps as well. Thanks for sharing. ijporter Posted September 29, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 29, 2006 Thanks John, I'm not sure if you've ever seen a healthy male king parrot, but this is their actual colour. I can understand people thinking it's a false red, but the image is pretty accurate. It is a truly magnificent bird! with best wishes, ian
leicamann Posted September 29, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2006 Ian..I am afraid you misunderstood what I said. If we were both at your home looking at the slide on a light table or via a slide projector..we'd both agree that not only was the colour accurate but stunnning as well as noticing a 3d quality to the image we don't see manifest from the scan..Now we both turn around and look at the scan and notice that...well in fact the scan and slide don't really resemble each other..in fact something funny has happened to that wonderful red as well as other "oddities" about both the depth and general overall colour..they don't match... ergo the scan IS NOT a faithful rendering of the original..something is missing. THATS what I am talking about..the SCAN is NOT the SLIDE...... not by any means. Regards, Leicamann
