Howdy, I'm almost completely thrilled with my new R9/DMR rig but have a few lingering issues to work through, and I'd be grateful for any input:

• Two new 2GB SD cards and neither will format correctly. The camera tries, then asks if I want to reformat over and over again. What gives? I thought I read somewhere that there was an issue with firmware 1.2... but of course I can't find that now. Both SD discs were purchased from a reputable Leica dealer, so I'm assuming it's a DMR issue, not bad/wrong media.

• HATE the white balance on the preview screen. Thank goodness for RAW and being able to dial in the color temp in PhotoShop.

• Am I the only one with persistent nose-prints on the screen? I didn't think mine was that big...

On the whole this DMR is better than I could have imagined. Buttery depth and texture like film but all the instant gratification you could ever want. I thought I'd hate the refactoring of all my lenses, but I'm finding I use the outlines in the viewfinder like I do with my M6.

Now, if only Imacon would get off their butts and issue firmware 1.3...

I'm not sure where the problem is. I've only used firmware 1.1. My G3 running OS 10.3.9 also wants to re-format the cards (Sandisk 2 GB), so I either read them w/ OS 9.2 or with the portable hard drive.

I haven't had the color balance problem. IIRC this is a firmware 1.2 bug.

No.

The only thing it lacks IMHO is the SL's viewscreen :-(

Some SD cards may note be properly formatted by the DMR. I do have the experience on one Taiwan brand name 2GB SD card which can not be properly used together with the DMR.

Now I only stick on SanDisk and Kingston which so far I have no problem at all on totally 4 nos. of these SD cards with the DMR.

Yes, from the very beginning you may find the re-factoring in the view finder a bit hard. But if you have a M6, then it should not be a problem. I do the same between my R8/DMR and M6.

I hate the color temp reproduction of my DMR as well. I hope the V1.3 firmware can be much improved.

My DMR experiences are very good. I was so surprised at the quality of the images that i have very rarely taken the back of the R9. I too suffwer with the smudges on the LCD an am forever cleaning it.

Have had problems with the USB SD cards ( the ones with the built in adapter), but no problem with any others.

Although i have to admit that i ran out of SD space on a glacier, removed the back and then dropped it, chipped a corner off the back, the dial came off and it is at SOLMS at present.

Ouch! -

Cant wait to get it back!
