My I Model Cs are 11O’Clock. This one was converted to a Standard after the III appeared and hence it was made 7O’Clock.

I was trying to explain why a I Model A , with all the features of that camera, had a 0 on the lens. That is why I suggested that the part with the 0 might have been a replacement.

The distance scale moved onto the lens with the I Model C, of course.

As I expected, Pyrogallol has a mighty fine camera.

Thank you for saying so. It was another purchase from Peter Loy Ltd.

Adding to an old thread.

I just bought a Leica 1a in a dull satin chrome finish. Clearly modified from black at some stage and by someone. The lens has the “0” standardised engraving, but I didn’t think standardisation came in until 1931, and this camera has a 1930 serial number.

I will see if Leitz can offer any history for it.

Another camera to test with film. I am testing a Leotax F  with three new lenses, 85mm Jupiter, 110mm Chiyoko and 150mm Meyer Tele-Megor,  at the moment but the weather has been overcast and wet so not the best conditions for testing cameras and lenses.

I had a very quick reply from Leitz (8,17am on the first morning back after the new year) telling me that they had no entry in the old delivery and repair books for this camera and could only say the production period from 1923-28.

That opens more questions, why no entry? When and why was it chromed? Did someone at Leitz put it together for themselves? Was it made up from spare parts?

No one likely to know now after almost 100 years.

I put another film through my matt chrome 1a, FP4 again, but this time I increased the development a bit to increase the contrast for the uncoated lens and used an orange filter. All taken at f9 for either 100th or 200th sec.

These are quick copies of this morning’s darkroom prints.

The lens is chrome and the hockey stick is bright shiny chrome. I thought chrome did not come in until 1932/3 ? Maybe the lens was changed when it was converted from black paint to chrome, but the body chrome is dull satin finish. I can’t see any signs of it being a Russian fake.

I put a roll of film through it this morning, Christmas morning, and it seems to be working ok. Negatives are low contrast and a bit overexposed mostly shooting into the sun which is not good for an uncoated lens with some haze, but look sharp. Must remember to not overexpose and increase the development to boost the contrast a bit next time.

A new print from my 1a. There is a thread on the forum for pictures from vintage lenses but it is in the M area.

Sunset over Breydon. 1a with Rollei 400 Infrared film in Tanol. 20th f4,5 Ilford MG 300 art paper with some watercolour paint added. That Art paper has a surface that will take watercolour paint.
