Advertisement Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Hi markgay, Take a look here Should Leica Abandon The M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
brianv Posted February 17, 2010 Share #402 Posted February 17, 2010 It took a while for my M2 to come back from its last repair, gears for the rewind mechanism were back-ordered from Leica. They still maintain the M2 and M3, why would they abandon a 3 year old camera...
Guest Chris M Posted February 19, 2010 Share #403 Posted February 19, 2010 Lets just say, Hmmmm? I would like to think that Leica will (never) abandon the M8. Abandoning their first DRF would make them look like silly asses making poor business decisions, which would play a very negative part in future sales I think. You can't create a great product and then abandon it 3 years latter, after all its what got the ball re rolling for Leica in the first place, avoiding almost a complete disolving of Leica. The M8 saved the day:) thanks chris m.
mhoersch Posted February 19, 2010 Share #404 Posted February 19, 2010 Well, perhaps they shouldn't, but they did. They cancelled the eternal upgrade program, they stopped production when the M8.2 came out, last firmware update was in September 2008. Not much left of what Leica once called their "flagship product", is there? Oh yes, for 250 € + VAT you can buy one year insurance against the disintegrating shutter.
