hoppyman Posted June 26, 2008 Share #161 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is a saying, those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Since stnami has expressed his disappointment with everyone's posted images, I visited his website to look at his photographs. I saw some strong and interesting portraits and a great deal of work that is not to my taste. That is simply personal opinion. Doubtless my photography does not appeal to him. However that is the nature of the pusuit of photography and there is room for all manner of styles. His impoliteness though, I don't understand at all. Such a post serves only to annoy, it has nothing to teach. Is the intent to provoke a reaction or controversy? I would have welcomed an example from his own work or alternatively an opinion expressed reasonably and objectively.

Shootist Posted June 26, 2008 Share #163  Posted June 26, 2008 Stnami not ever image you take has to be posed, proped and taken at a wierd angle or cut, copied and photoshoped to hell to convey a message and be called art. The art is in taking the picture, good or bad.  Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jaapv Posted June 26, 2008 Share #166 Â Posted June 26, 2008 I really do not care about the artistic value or lack thereof. All posters are trying to convey one thing: "this particular piece of equipment works for me for the reason given". That message comes through loud and clear and is illustrated by images. For me, it has brought my photography to a higher (not necessarily high ) level and that is what works for me..... And in the vein of my "court jester" post, I appreciate Imants holding up that mirror of his to me.(Sometimes, otherwise: that kick...)

JBA Posted June 26, 2008 Share #169 Â Posted June 26, 2008 I really enjoyed this thread, unlike most of the things I read about the M8. This is the only thread that has made me want to get one.

Guest stnami Posted June 26, 2008 Share #171 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Jaap it's a pity that those images don't back up what they are saying about why the camera works for them. There just isn't enough in these images that say buy me(m8) above what the other manufacturer's a better resolved products . If one is going to showcase for god's sake do it properly .... bloody hell now I have missed out on dinner and there is no snack before lights out today............ sheeeeeeeeeert!!! Amoment Posted June 26, 2008 Share #172 Â Posted June 26, 2008 stnami's photos may well be technically very good, but I find them mentally disturbing. Many a number of the photos on this thread left me feeling, 'I wish that I had taken that'. Â Enthusiasm over synisism every time. Â Stuart

firststream Posted June 26, 2008 Share #179 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Stnami, you are confusing (some of) the posted images lack of aesthetic objectivity with technological inferiority. This thread is enlightening - I now realize, for instance, that the M8 is superior for focussing in low-light, and for taking shots through chain-link fences. I don't need prize winning shots as well to teach me that. As has been discussed over and over, and over and over, the M8 does not do everything. One cannot purchase tires that do everything better than any others. Some people prefer all-season radials, some prefer changing tires for summer and winter driving. Carrying the analogy further, the M8 is my 'summer' camera. It's discretion and superior optics gives high performance images when needed. When I need 10 fps and a 500mm lens, I'll use something else. When street tires are needed, I won't be using F1 slicks.
JBA Posted June 26, 2008 Share #180 Â Posted June 26, 2008 What other digital camera lets you take photos at this resolution using not just manually focusing lenses, but Leica M glass?
