uulrich Posted September 11, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 11, 2006 Folks, have fun within our new subsection dedicated to silverhalogenid film&processing, everything around darkroom and slide projections... This section has been created following earlier proposals.... best - Klaus I can find two buttons in the list view of this section. Both link somehow to the administrator's homepage. I don't know if this is intended but since the buttons don't have appropiate labels I thought it is a good idea if I point this out.
starwatcher Posted September 11, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 11, 2006 Uwe, these seem to be defaults from ads testing. I'll try to clarify and let you know... Thanks - Klaus
elansprint72 Posted September 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2006 "Everything about non-digital 35mm photography....." So does that mean what it says, no Leica content required? Presumably there will soon be separate forums to discuss B&O vs Bose, breadmakers and which Mac screen is the best? I'm not sure that this direction is one that should be taken, unless of course there is a demand from the majority of forum members; I'm not aware that WE have been asked. Regards, Pete. Regards, Pete. There were suggestions on the old forum I recall that threads relating to process, film, paper, developing etc, as opposed to equipment issues were listed on a separate section. Although I expect many will post threads related to M3 repairs, lens choices and the like here as well...

You'll notice changes to the Forum as Andreas puts into practice many of the ideas discussed by a group of Forum members he chose as advisors and moderators over the last nine months. One thing to keep in mind about the new categories is that they are specific to Leica-made products and to general interests that Leica-using members have asked about and asked for in the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see even more categories going forward...perhaps even for specific photographic topics. Hmmmm...can you think of any that might warrant consideration? Thanks. elansprint72 Posted September 11, 2006 Share #12 Posted September 11, 2006 Allan, I think if there is a forum limited to darkoom users using only Leica equipment then we will be fishing in a very small pool which is drying up very quickly, and is surrounded by piles of dinosaur bones. Most of the dwindling number of film users round here seem to use scanning, either by themselves or by commercial service providers. I really can't see the point of this at all. wrt to posts being specific to Leica products, how do the frequent Hi-Fi threads and Mac discussions fit within the rules? Maybe a "free for all" forum would be the answer, then I could ignore it You will remember what happened when I recently suggested a "cars/wheels forum", to liberate the Sports and Leisure thread Cheers, Pete. andybarton Posted September 11, 2006 Share #13 Posted September 11, 2006 Lots of forums have a "lounge" section, for just this kind of off-topic stuff, Pete.
elansprint72 Posted September 11, 2006 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2006 Andy, That would explain my confusion, I've always been a "Vault" man myself. Cheers, Pete.
uulrich Posted September 12, 2006 Share #15 Posted September 12, 2006 1.) If we divide the forum into to specific sections someone could get the impression that there is only little traffic on this site, leading to look somewhere else. 2.) I agree with Pete about the darkroom/Leica specific questions. Speaking only for myself, using Leica cameras but no Leica darkroom equipment (w/ the exception of the 5x loupe) I would need to look somewhere outside this forum. Since I have only little concerns and demands for claifications about Leica's camera bodies and their lenses to discuss I would find myself in a need to crawl the net outside this forum. I would appreciate the oppportunity to discuss w/ you how to get the best out of my Leica gear. The darkroom is the next logical step for me. Even if I don't use Leica enlarger I would consider myself as someone who shows a rather strong commitment to Leica gear. One small example:- Many times I saw people discussing the pros and cons of scanners. Apparently Nikon is among the best of currently available scanner, according to the audience who participated those days. Now, there is no Leica scanner available. Since the workflow, or the Leica chain if you wish, is broken, how much of it is left when it is finally uploaded onto this site? Leica stands for high quality bodies and lenses, (sure they to other scientific equipment as well but this is the Leica Camera Forum). Just discussing what RAL code the red dot is and leaving newbies and oldies in the dark how to get the best picture out of their gear is something I would not find useful. uulrich Posted September 12, 2006 Share #16 Posted September 12, 2006 Oh yes. This thread seems a bit off-topic by now, we remember, it was a test posting. I think it's worth to have a look at it. Can we change the sujects of the postings or move our comments to another new thread somehow? I am no technican here so I don't know, it's just a thought. uulrich Posted September 12, 2006 Share #18 Posted September 12, 2006 Speaking for myself only, I think if you could move the 'off-topic' discussions into a new thread w/ an appropiate subject it would be fine. I was actuallly puzzled why a test thread got so much attention and I had a look into it. I find the mind sharings about this forum could also suitable and interesting for others. W/ a useful subject this thread could serve more members perhaps.
starwatcher Posted September 12, 2006 Author Share #19 Posted September 12, 2006 Uwe, changing the header of this thread is absolutely no problem. Just let me know what you would like to have... Even originally planned as a simple test message it has lead to a discussion (which I personally appreciate) and you should absolutely feel free to go on with it... best -Klaus

This subject sound neutral and would still make #1 on topic. Then leave the content as it is. I just went through the entire messages and found that even the initial thread #1 cannot be excluded. It contains some remarks about the new section, which has already been commented. turning this thread apart would not be useful IMO. Thanks.
