I have one where the button has to be held down to rewind.

The original vulcanite is brittle and chipping off, but this M2 is still my favorite out of all film M designs.

1966 Leica M2, and !960 35mm Summaron. The camera predates every other element in the picture

I need to put some film through my M2.  It alternates with the M5 as my favorite film Leica.  However, I have been using a recently acquired MP240 a lot trying to get into digital.  Technology vs tradition, sounds like a song from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.

"Careful with those rotated strap lugs, though. They could cause light leaks, or worse, fall out while in use."

Xelor, congratulations.  May I suggest the M2 is given a CLA when the strap lugs can be corrected and tightened.

They are made of brass, so I use blind-cord and  not key-ring eyelet which wear the lugs.

The lugs are very tight! They are not rotating by any means (no danger of light leaks or falling out). I assume the previous owner did request this "change" by intention during a CLA. I currently do not see any problem with that.

Thank you for your "heads-up".

Finally I managed to get picture of my M2 on film (using Konica Autoreflex T2). Used this on a roadtrip and loved it. :)

Hi Guys,

I noticed, on those cameras where the shutter speed is visible, that they are set to around 1/125 sec.

The biggest improvement to the quality of my shots was increasing the shutter speed where possible to 1/500 or at least 1/250.

In the days of Kodachrome this was rarely possible, but with today's films and the quality of Leica lenses wide open it is not a problem.

For me it depends on the film speed but I somewhat agree. With 400 film it is naturally high for sunny 16. For 100 speed film, I set 1/500 since I can use more optimal aperture (5.6 or 8). When light falls then I open aperture first before slowing shutter.

But I bring back speed to 1/125 and aperture to f16 as a habit. This allows me to quickly set exposure by counting stops above sunny 16.
