robsteve Posted February 17, 2008 Share #22 Posted February 17, 2008 3. If _that_ doesn't work I use the Arctic Butterfly wet system. Remember that you'll need the swabs for a sensor with a 1.3 crop factor. It may take more than I swab to remove any deposits on the sensor. I also use the Arctic Butterfly loupe to examine the sensor, I've found this very useful. My only problem in all of this is trying to calculate Arctic Butterfly's mark ups. They must be tremendous <grin>. I am wondering if the M8 requires the 1.3x swabs? I am using visible dust kit that uses pec pads and a rubber spatula to hold the pad. I have the sizes from 1.6x to 1x and with the DMR I figured out the full frame size works better because it gets the whole sensor in one wipe. I have used this same 1x size on the M8, since the M8 seems to have a full frame shutter and there is lots of room for the 1x size. I should measure my 1x spatula/pec pad combo to see how wide it its. It may be narrower than the pre-packaged sensor swabs. Robert
robsteve Posted February 18, 2008 Share #23 Posted February 18, 2008 I just checked the width of the 1x Sensor Wand that I have been using to clean the M8. It is a 18mm wide rubber spatula, which is about 19mm wide when wrapped with the pec pad. Anybody have a sensor swab handy to measure its width? stunsworth Posted February 18, 2008 Share #24 Posted February 18, 2008 Hi Robert, I used one of the 1.3 swabs the other day. It's exactly the right width for the M8 sensor.
usefeet Posted February 18, 2008 Share #25 Posted February 18, 2008 The width of the 1.3 wipe is about 21.5mm. Cheers.

robsteve Posted February 19, 2008 Share #27 Posted February 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The width of the 1.3 wipe is about 21.5mm. Cheers. Thanks for measuring it. They must size the sensor wands quite a bit smaller than the sensor swab. The 1x sensor wand is about the size of the 1.3x sensor swab.
johnbanting Posted February 19, 2008 Share #28 Posted February 19, 2008 In a short LFI article last summer or autumn about how to clean the sensor I think they said that Leica use Isopropyl Alcohol, a camera cleaning cloth (whatever that is), and a wooden spatula. I'm not at home at present so cannot check this out, but perhaps someone else can confirm it. I am not a chemist and am writing this from memory, so please do check first. jackal Posted February 20, 2008 Author Share #30 Posted February 20, 2008 COOL ! completely painless x2 visible dust orange swabs, size 1.3 4 wipes (1 wipe each side) with 4 drops of Eclipse E2 on each swab and hey presto..... from 100's of spots down to about 2 (seen at F22) swabs are a bit pricey... visible dust clearly trade on people's fear here. The swabs are the sort of thing you would get normally in a pack of 100 for about 4 pounds. I'll be looking for an alternative next time round. stevelap Posted February 22, 2008 Share #31 Posted February 22, 2008 Has anyone tried the Delkin SensorScope system? The kit, which recently won a 'best product' award, includes a loupe (SensorScope), vacuum cleaner (SensorVac), pads (SensorSafe Wands) and cleaning solution (SensorSolution). "SensorScope System – New and Improved." "Photography’s most acclaimed sensor cleaning kit is now better than ever! The SensorVac is sturdier & more powerful, the SensorSafe Wands are made of a more absorbent and non-fibrous material and the SensorSolution is an enhanced quick drying and more effective dust removing formula. The SensorScope, with these improvements, is by far the safest and most effective system for cleaning any digital SLR image sensor. The new and improved SensorScope system will be shipping in early March, 2008." Delkin Devices - Products - SensorScope System I wonder if the SensorVac works?
