Really?

I didn't think, there could be anything more substantial and indestructible, while feeling absolutely refined, as a Nikon F5.

Don't get me as a "Yeah, but …" type, but the F5 really surprised me as a camera body (even after shooting the D3 on a regular basis).

What's better about the R4-7 bodies?

Hi, Menos. How are you these days?:)

I loved my F5 but sold it a few years ago. I miss it but I can't say I loved the camera, it was just a solid brick. My "lowly" R4 is so compact, steel solid as opposed to rubber clad brick, has a detachable motor drive and works well simultaneously with my M3. it just feels good and I love it. Aesthetics are better IMO.

After a week or so with F's, FE2, F100, and such, when I tire of playing with them, I pick up the R4 and wonder why I bothered with the Nikons. It just plain works for me, especially the feel and the size of it. All this for $200!

I have on my list to get an R8 or R9 for my next documentary. I have finally decided against the F100 as I prefer continuity in my images and the gear I use. The F100 feels familiar as I have used nothing but Nikons until 3 years ago, but there is no going back for the work I do now. If I get a sports gig, the Nikon gear will come back out of the closet...but I mostly do documentary work these days.

I once owned both the R4 and R4s.

The R4 did give me some trouble, but when fixed it operated for years, the R4s never give me any problems

Leica produced over 116, 700 units in it's 6 years of manufacture.

I frankly prefer the R7's but both my R8/9 are lovely also.

Ken.

Don't know if this is going to work correctly but..........R5 & R6.2, with motor drives,Summicron 35, Summicron 90 Elmar 180 and the 560 f6,8:

Taken with my LC1, obviously, I'm new to digital (and not much with a computer either).

My beloved SL2 in its new home after an international move and an overhaul by Sherry Krauter. CLA, new meter, and calibrated for 1.5V.

My two Rs (R8 and R9) sadly haven’t had a roll of film in the last 5-6 years. Since getting my DMRs, only my M2 and M6TTL get any film nowadays.

Don't forget and go through and exercise them now and then...even without film.

Press the shutter at least a couple times for each shutter speed.

Curses on this thread - it has got me interested in the 'R'!

I have spotted a "Leica R5 body, black. Full working order & guaranteed. Foam light/dust seals replaced & camera checked by specialist repairer" at what seems a reasonable price and am quite tempted (shhh, don't tell my wife!). However, looking at lenses there seems to be a dearth of 'R' prime lenses in that almost all I have seen on offer on UK dealer websites are various sizes of zoom lenses, which I am not interested in. Was the proportion of prime to zoom lenses for the R family heavily weighted in favour of the zoom variety?

Not sure. Maybe like you, most are looking for prime lenses, therefore there are more zooms available.

There is more win in this one photo than in most of our contributions combined. :D.

How did you get a series VI filter on the 50cron on the SL? I can't find a filter to stick on mine (and i'd really like to).

Jason

Thanks :)

You can still get them online. G**gle it.
