Here's my R3 MOT & 50 Summicron, which I've owned from new. A very underrated Leica IMO.

Seem´s like a Minolta for me (duck and cover)........ :D

Just kidding - really the best "R" ever build for use is the R8 for me.

Even I sold mine years ago getting hot for these dumb DSLR´s *Facepalm*

Minolta, eh?

No kidding Dude - the R3 based on the Minolta XE-Series - just add some

Spot-Metering and a Motor-Winder. But awsome Camera even if you own

one in this silver-classic-look.

Peace

Randle

Yes there are optical differences. Let's say that R lenses are closer to pre-asph Ms at the exception of the last telephoto lenses. If you're looking after a 100% Leica, you should be happy with Leicaflex SL or SL2. Otherwise some Minolta based Rs are very good indeed. Mine is a mere R4s but the best MinoLeica R body is perhaps the R6.2. Matter of tastes though.

Edit: The R9 is the best 'modern' Leica R but you're after a smaller body if i understand well.

My English is worst and worst sorry. I meant if you're looking for a 100% Leica.

Your English is fine....:)

I, too have a Leica R4. And it was very well done with collaboration with Minolta, not unlike the collaboration of the M8 and M9 with Japanese sensors.

The R8 and the R9 had nothing to do with Minolta, so I would include them in that definition. No worries either way. All R body cameras and lenses are fantastic. Try a Leica R4-7 and then pick up a late edition of any Nikon film camera and you immediately see and feel the difference! It is stunning.

Really?

I didn't think, there could be anything more substantial and indestructible, while feeling absolutely refined, as a Nikon F5.

Don't get me as a "Yeah, but …" type, but the F5 really surprised me as a camera body (even after shooting the D3 on a regular basis).

What's better about the R4-7 bodies?
