Andy,

Thanks for that reference on how to post images. I'm afraid I'm still at the stage where I'm trying to find the slot in my laptop where you insert the negative or slide!

However, I intend retiring this summer and after acquiring a decent scanner I hope to have plenty time to get up to speed and start posting.

Cheers, Ken

My first Leica Reflex was a R4 with 35mm Summicron. I have had R6, R7, and a few R8. I am now down to a Leicaflex SL2 and a couple R9.

I bought the black R9 when the metering went on the Anthracite R9, four days before I had a two week vacation planned. The Black R9 is little used because the Canadian Leica service agent (Kindermann Canada) replaced the mirror box (where the cells are) with a turnaround of a day. Including couriers, I was without my R9 only three days and it made it for the vacation.

I don't have an R Leica at the moment (although you lot are doing nothing for my willpower... :p ) but I want to share a story with you. Every time I see the title of this thread I am reminded of it.

Years ago, I used to run two-day workshops on systems implementation. One of the subjects was testing. I used to draw a big capital R up on the whiteboard and write words beside it:

Representative

Realistic

Repeatable

Reliable

Reasonable

...etc.

Each workshop was run two-handed. We took it in turns to do sections. Whoever wasn't holding the floor would reinforce the points being made - "so that's important to remember..." "An example of this would be..." and so on.

One day I was doing the workshop with a colleague. She was a tiny Scottish lady with a wicked sense of humour and a high-class "Morningside" Edinburgh accent that made Miss Jean Brodie sound as if she came from the Gorbals.

I did my testing spiel with the big capital R, etc, and she "reinforced" the message by saying:

"So, there you are, when thinking about testing you should bear in mind Bill's big R's up on the board."

Regards,

Bill
