Phil Hill finished 12th at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix in this car. Anyone know what it is ?

Nice, and the red is well saturated. Though I couldn't guess at the model number is it Ferrari's 1st read engine F1 car?

William - It's a 1962 car and is not a Ferrari. In fact I didn't know this car was even entered in a Grand Prix till I reaad the spiel in testerday's tribute to Phil Hill.

Interesting? Was Phil there? Really nice man and a gent at all times. Glad he received a tribute.

William - Yes he was. He hobbled out using a stick to greet his son after winning and got a great cheer. He was a real racer and it is so sad to see him like this. I don't know what illness he has but it's a great disappointment to everyone who knew him in his hayday. I saw him win Le Mans in 1958 with Olivier Gendebien in a Ferrari of course.

Wonderful to hear he received such a warm reception. Haven't seen him for more than five years, but he was fine when he last visited NJ for a large, private Ferrari gathering at the house of one of my clients. Worked for his personal tuner in 1964 and 1965 and we had some fun times together. I guess he still lives in Miami.

Is it a Porsche? I'm guessing because for the front suspension design (looks a bit like a fancy Beetle)! Is it an F1 or and F2? Or is it something really obscure like an ATS or an Etcetterini?

I think I'll stick with Porsche, but why red?

I knew that!! Designed by Carlo Chiti, engine by Derrington, and all around disaster. HIll's next FI and last ride was an uncompetitive Cooper.

John - You don't mean Vic Derrington of Kingston do you ? - He of the noisy exhausts for road cars and special manifolds for manifold others .

J'accuse. Actually I don't remember this Derrington's first name. The team was based upon some ex-Ferrari people and financed by a South American. A million dollars in potential, and not worth a dime on the trading table, as they say.
