Advertisement Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Hi k_g_wolf ✝, Take a look here Update from PMA. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stevelap Posted February 6, 2008 Share #242 Posted February 6, 2008 Interesting update heard today from a close friend who attended PMA. (he sells Leica, Hassy and View Cameras...) He was talking with another vendor at PMA, and the vendor mentioned that just before PMA that they had been notified by Photokina management that their booth had been displaced on the Photokina floor. Leica's booth had been expanded to 3x floorspace over original commitment which caused this displacement...The displaced firm was originally 2 spaces from Leica on the Photokina floor layout. Further discussions with Leica reps on reason for tripling floorspace at photokina: ...yes, but not for M9 but major announcements on R10 and autofocus lenses..... And there was a hint of yet another M8 upgrade beyond Shutter and Sapphire....this one may be more interesting. We'll have to wait and see whether any of this is correct or just rumor. Let's hope that this is somewhere near the truth, I wouldn't be surprised. It certainly reinforces the belief that photokina '08 is a 'must attend' event. They finally put the phone and the blowdryer in? For that, I could live with 1/
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 6, 2008 Share #244 Posted February 6, 2008 Reminder folks the upgrade is 1200 euro's period for everyone world wide. What ever that conversion is when it hits you credit card company at the time of purchase that is the price. Not 1800 US please lose that number it is emphatically 1200 Euro's period and that includes the shipping from your door and home.

And although the question hasn't been answered directly, I guess that Americans and others with no European VAT to pay will not get any lower price (I don't care what currency it is based in, say Thai Baht...). Leica can pay for pretty careful insured shipping and handling with the 19% German VAT that they save. scott

According the XE.COM, it's $1755 today but your card issuing bank will add a foreign currency surcharge of a couple of percent most likely which takes you close to $1800. If US interest rates weaken to try to stop going into a recession, the Euro is likely to strength so that $1800 will be an under-estimate. Might be Leica have tired of trying to second guess the currency markets, though they will be buying quite a lot in USD, and instead are passing the foreign currency risk on to the customer. sdai Posted February 6, 2008 Share #247 Posted February 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) If Leica is so sure about the down trend of US dollars, they can just pour their money on short positions and forget all about this camera business. I really don't care, for now, what the cost of the upgrade is. I won't be doing it until the original warranties run almost out, or totally out. Now IF Leica said we will EXTEND your original warranty for 2 more years then I would probably do it right away. I'm not giving up what I already paid for, IE the original warranty. don_panko Posted February 6, 2008 Share #250 Posted February 6, 2008 I have the same warranty concern as I have an extended warranty from the time of purchase and I am not a heavy user that will wear the camera out. However, it's good to know that in the future I can always have the camera rebuilt and upgraded before I pass it on to my grandchildren. I'm liking this upgrade path more every day. charlesphoto99 Posted February 6, 2008 Share #251 Posted February 6, 2008 I guess what with the new bling website and all they are taking a cue from Jay-Z (he recently flashed euros instead of greenbacks in a video).
