You guys have all the fun. My M8 is still in Solms together with some lenses for coding and adjustment. I just cannot understand it. The repair was completed well over two weeks ago and I still haven't received them. Apparently there has been some delays with customs paperwork. I have just downloaded the new firmware onto the SD card, but without the camera - it is more frustrating than fun ;)

Try that Norway becomes a part of the EU, than you wont have customs problems anymore :-)

I have not upgraded the last couple of firmwares. Can you download this latest one if my current firmware is 1.102 ?

Thanks for any info

You bet

AWB is very good now but the scroll wheel has become more erratic. When I select delete and then scroll to all, sometimes it works and sometimes it is as if it got two inputs and scrolls back to where it was. I am seeing similar erratic behavior on some other functions.

John try resetting and see if that helps

Got my firmware (from the US site), and a nice message that my battery power was too low.

This particular upgrade takes more than twice as long as previous upgrades. When the monsters here have finished reverse engineering the firmware, maybe we'll find that there is a lot of additional code.

This is the first and only good news in the past couple of days. I can't wait to upgrade to the new firmware after about a month when any new bugs have been discovered.

Vinay--how about first admitting you were wrong when you said, over and over again, that Leica would never address the M8 AWB in a firmware fix?

No SDHC though.

Firmware version 1.201 - The update adds these improvements to your camera:

􀂾 New and considerably improved algorithms for the automatic white balance (AWB) for true-to-life colors in almost all lighting conditions.

􀂾 Bug fixes: The following effects have been remedied:

o With certain SD card types, images were bouncing while being reviewed.

o In few cases, wrong exposures were reported when the camera was released from stand-by mode.

o In the Exif data, the Max-Aperture-Value of the TRI-ELMAR-M 16-18-21mm/f4 ASPH was incorrect.

I am very encouraged by what I've seen thus far regarding the new fimware's auto white balance.

Many of you may recall the pretty, but pretty hilarious awb samples I posted here last May:

After updating to the new firmware this morning I shot the same scene with the same camera/lens/ISO. Granted, the lighting conditions today are a bit different than in the previous test. But the M8's original awb would still have produced great variation with this blue vase in the scene. Here are the results with firmware 1.201:

Other individual scenes have shown similarly accurate and consistent results.

So at this point I have to commend Leica for clearly putting their shoulders to this issue. Of course it will take a bit more experience before I gain full confidence with the M8's awb. But I am certainly encouraged by what I've seen so far.

Bravo Leica.
