Advertisement Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Hi Guest guy_mancuso, Take a look here New firmware 1.201 is online (merged FW 1.201 thread). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stephengilbert Posted January 31, 2008 Share #22 Â Posted January 31, 2008 "Hopefully everyone will be happy?" Guy, you need a vacation; if there's one think I can confidently predict, it is that "everyone" will never be happy. I don't think names need be mentioned here. chris_tribble Posted January 31, 2008 Share #23 Â Posted January 31, 2008 Side by side against the 5D - the M8 wins. Daylight / energy saving bulbs / neon / halogen. HAS to be worth the wait! Â My hat's off to the guys at Solms. Â Thanks too to beta testers. Â Best
chris_tribble Posted January 31, 2008 Share #24  Posted January 31, 2008 Straight out of the camera - JPEG created in LR from the RAW. WB "As Shot". That's the wall beside where I'm working - colour's the same on screen (calibrated display) as it is in the real world. I'm happy! Welcome, dear visitor! okram Posted January 31, 2008 Share #25 Â Posted January 31, 2008 "b. Reports of wrong exposures for images taken immediately after coming out of stand-by mode." Â I was hoping for that, very much. I will test it, though..
fotografr Posted January 31, 2008 Share #26  Posted January 31, 2008 No, no. It isn't "screw the upgrade". You've got it backwards   I'm happy to know I don't need to worry about your M8s being ahead of mine in the upgrade line. Thank you.
jimcollum Posted January 31, 2008 Share #27 Â Posted January 31, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) i've also noticed the rapid scrolling hasn't appeared again. it had continued after the last firmware upgrade.... but this one seems to have nailed it

Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted January 31, 2008 Share #29  Posted January 31, 2008 Side by side against the 5D - the M8 wins. Daylight / energy saving bulbs / neon / halogen. HAS to be worth the wait! My hat's off to the guys at Solms.  Thanks too to beta testers.  Best  Agree 100%. Tested against Nikon D3 in varying light conditions including very dull daylight, tungsten/daylight mixed, tungsten only. Very much improved results with the new firmware, especially in mixed light. Have not tried fluorescent. Teddy
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 31, 2008 Share #30 Â Posted January 31, 2008 I think a few Leica engineers are smiling . i will forward this thread to them that should make there day.
Hookeye Posted January 31, 2008 Share #31 Â Posted January 31, 2008 You guys have all the fun. My M8 is still in Solms together with some lenses for coding and adjustment. I just cannot understand it. The repair was completed well over two weeks ago and I still haven't received them. Apparently there has been some delays with customs paperwork. I have just downloaded the new firmware onto the SD card, but without the camera - it is more frustrating than fun
lepremier Posted January 31, 2008 Share #32 Â Posted January 31, 2008 I'm getting some really peculiar results...some almost perfect colour renditions and some, whites/creams with a dreadful green hue... All taken inside at night here, no flash and in mostly tungsten lighting and set to AWB..so far disappointing but I will persevere!! Â The peculiarity just seems to come from a certain sort of tungsten light source, set to AWB/tungsten or halogen everything remotely "light coloured" has this green hue. However if I set the AWB to "manual" and use the wall as a source, the results are almost perfect. With other artificial light sources, all indoors at night here, it seems to be suuuper.... carstenw Posted January 31, 2008 Share #33 Â Posted January 31, 2008 I did go through the step of selection the "Reset" option in the menu. I recall a recent thread where someone mentioned that some expected firmware changes didn't take properly until the camera was reset.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 31, 2008 Share #34 Â Posted January 31, 2008 Maybe a good idea to hit the reset than set up you menu options again. Certainly won't hurt doing that
Jamie Roberts Posted January 31, 2008 Share #35 Â Posted January 31, 2008 Just shot a ton of stuff under tungsten, halogen, fluourescent and daylight. All consistent, so it looks fixed to me (which doesn't mean I'll use it because consistent isn't always right). Â I'm not seeing the wild differences shot to shot. Â I'm sure it can be fooled under mixed light (or with tungstens of varying age, because they burn at different temps) but every AWB I've ever seen can be fooled, too. rwfreund Posted January 31, 2008 Share #36 Â Posted January 31, 2008 AWB is pretty damned good. -bob
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 31, 2008 Share #37 Â Posted January 31, 2008 I will reload my camera's just in case there was a tweak or two between this and my beta. Â But i have been pretty happy so far. I did send this to the engineers as they should read your comments.
Guest tummydoc Posted January 31, 2008 Share #38 Â Posted January 31, 2008 This is the first and only good news in the past couple of days. I can't wait to upgrade to the new firmware after about a month when any new bugs have been discovered.
MP3 Posted January 31, 2008 Share #39 Â Posted January 31, 2008 My M8 stops mad blind scrolling since I loaded FW 1.201 Â And the AWB really works beautifully in mixed lightings. Â I'm so happy to see these progress. Thank you Solms.
barjohn Posted January 31, 2008 Share #40 Â Posted January 31, 2008 AWB is very good now but the scroll wheel has become more erratic. When I select delete and then scroll to all, sometimes it works and sometimes it is as if it got two inputs and scrolls back to where it was. I am seeing similar erratic behavior on some other functions.
