Hello,

I would need a bit of help from the community, given the vast wealth of knowledge this forum has.

I just bought an used '86 Summilux 80mm, body of the lens has some cosmetic traces, a bit of dust inside, outside glass has some one small mark, but overall it's in reasonable condition.

But... When I turn the lens upside down, on it's vertical axis, there's a slight "clank" sound, as if some element has a bit of play, as if it's moving inside the lens. It doesn't sound to travel a long distance in the vertical plane, but it's clearly there. I cannot figure which element would that be, by trying to observe it when lighting the inside with a lamp.

I've never experienced such a thing on any of the other R lenses, and if I'm not mistaken, the 80mm is not supposed to have a floating element, right?

How bad could this be, how much can it impact the usage of the lens?

Any help would be much appreciated

I wouldn’t overthink it, a repair person is needed. If one of elements is out of true it affects image quality, if it moves you it can cause more scratches.

Right, image quality might be always affected, there's no telling where that element will be, at its designated place or slightly forward or backward.

I'll have to return it, afaik repairs take a long time plus extra costs, better try to find a properly working one, thank you @Carlos cruz
