scott kirkpatrick Posted 14 hours ago Share #1 Posted 14 hours ago (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I like to give a different first letter to each body that I use. But my attempts to use the filename editor to start files with anything but L have failed so far in my new EV1. Advertisement Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Hi scott kirkpatrick, Take a look here Late bug report: Can't change file nos from L.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Knorp Posted 9 hours ago Share #2 Posted 9 hours ago That's strange. The instructions in the manual (p76) really don't work ? EDIT FILE NAMES →Select Camera Settings in the main menu →Select Edit File Name • A keyboard submenu is displayed. • The input line contains the factory setting “L10” at the start of the file name. The first three characters of the file name are editable. →Enter a letter of your choice (see p. 48) →Confirm Notes • The change to a file name applies to all subsequent files or until a new change is made. The sequential number will not be affected; but it will be reset when a new folder is created. • After a reset to factory settings, the start of the file name will automatically revert to “L10”. • Lower case letters are unavailable. scott kirkpatrick Posted 4 hours ago Author Share #4 Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I'm using a card which was used before. I did reformat in the camera, but it seems to see the older numbers and does not start at zero. That must be a factor. I'll back up the little bit of shooting done so far (selected jpegs are in the picture thread), clean the chip several times and try again. By the way, notice the confusion (which is long-standing) in the instructions. It says that you can edit the first three letters in the filenames but the only change you can make is in the letter. When you edit the filename in the camera you must first erase the 3rd, then the 2nd digit, then you can provide a new (capitalized) letter for the new camera's files. Until you do that, the confirm button in the lower right corner of the EV1's screen is lit, but as soon as I change the file letter, it goes dark and will not accept the new letter. Probably all of this doesn't happen with a brand new, clean large SD card, but I don't have one of those. lct Posted 3 hours ago Share #5 Posted 3 hours ago I could change the first 3 letters (MEV) with no problem under firmware 2.6.0.
Knorp Posted 2 hours ago Share #6 Posted 2 hours ago Mm, I don't get it, Scott. What has the card to do with it ?
scott kirkpatrick Posted 1 hour ago Author Share #7 Posted 1 hour ago Advertisement (gone after registration) Why am I talking about the card? Well, that's where I start with a new camera. Charge the battery, insert a clean card, and identify that camera by setting a first letter for the filename of all shots done with that camera. Previous M's and SL's have been distinguished in my records in that way. I haven't yet owned 25 digital Leicas, so this should keep working for a while, but I do have several at the same time and this helps in tracking any issues that occur when I process that files. I shoot DNG-only.
