Hello

Awaiting delivery of the above lens which I found on eBay UK, looking forward to using it

As I normally work with two lenses, 28mm and 50mm am looking for a reasonably priced 28mm with similar image characteristics

Voigtlander, Typoch, vintage Canon or Nikon LTM, TT Artisan, etc,

Any ideas?

SP2 is a single-coated, vintage rendering lens.

Think all Voigtlanders and the TTA f/5.6 are optically modern and use aspherics.

On the reasonably priced front, Canon LTM might be interesting if you're a fan of Garry Winogrand.

Closer to 1k price bracket you can find some pre-asph Elmarits. Also https://lightlenslab.com/products/light-lens-lab-28mm-f-2-8-nine-element.

Personally I like my wide-angle lenses to be compact and on the modern side rendering-wise. Big fan of the TTA/5.6. Tiny, good optics and cheap. Got mine for ~ £200 off MPB. Black seems to handle flare much better than silver.

Why do you think black version handles flare better?

There's a black 7 Artisans 28mm/5.6 on eBay, any good?

Listing number: 306455504950

Vintage type lenses are interesting for some jobs makes a nice change to the usual Leica lenses

What about this, good value if any good?

Unable to post direct link for some reason, here are the details:

KMZ (Orion-15 ) 28mm f/6 Lens LTM

eBay number: 336161636148

I am not familiar with the Panchro, other than knowing it is a "cinematic" or "character" lens. Consider, perhaps, the Elmarit-M 28mm Version III, a Walter Mandler design? This one is not all that expensive, on the pre-owned market. I am struggling with this new computer, so cannot post a sample image, at the moment, but do have at least one JPEG that demonstrates maximum "character." I will try later, with an iPad, to post an image.

I found an image, shot through my Elmarit-M 28mm Version III, in post #7, in this thread topic:

OK, now, trying to post the image, an out-of-camera JPEG, an "environmental portrait" of my very camera-shy subject. The "cinematic" flare is easily repeatable:

I have the tt 28mm f 5.6 really like the lens. I have never had the  7a version heard that it brings up the 35 mm frame lines. So it depends on which body you are using it on. These days I use my M lenses on mirrorless bodies and have a 28mm f2.8 ver 2, plus the 7 Artisans f1.4 great lens but really large so the TT A 28mm f 5.6 gets most of the use these days.

Used to have the TTA chrome version, had to sell it as had no money, work took a nosedive after Covid lockdown and struggling ever since

From what I remember flare was a problem but no worse than vintage Leica lenses like the 50mm Summarit and Summar which I still have, not sure if the TTA images are what I'm looking for though, too "modern" to compliment the LLL

Lens will be used on M240 and M262

Leica lenses way out of my price range, but will check out the Elmarit version 3 in future if I can find one in UK at a decent price

35mm frame brackets don't bother me as wear glasses and have to use an external viewfinder

The difference between the black and silver versions of TTA 28mm is also in the painted metal parts around helicoid vs bare brass.

Mine is black and I have not had the crazy flare people with the silver post online.

But it does render modern so may not be what you're looking for then.

Corfield Lumax lenses made for the Periflex camera are not RF coupled. But they can be modified,.

I don't know exactly how the LLL replica renders, but I have a couple of converted original Cooke SPs 50/2 Ser. II.

I'd just go for a Canon 28/2.8 LTM. Not too hard to find in good condition and reasonably priced. The Nikkor 28/3.5 LTM is another good option (although usually more expensive) and so are the CV Skopar 28/3.5 LTM (perhaps a bit too 'modern' though) or the Komura 28/3.5 LTM (not very common).

The Orion 28/6 LTM is RF coupled but is indeed hard to find in good condition and will almost inevitably need to be properly calibrated. Somewhat on the slow side, like the Summaron.

There are a few other 28mm choices, but they are either more 'exotic' and/or require conversion and/or are likely too different in terms of rendering.

I should add that I have no experience with Chinese lenses in this focal length.

Thanks for that very useful info

Some very nice Komura/Avenon and other 28mm lenses on eBay but they're in Japan

Thought about getting them, but tax and customs charges at this end could make them unaffordable
