Do you have any links on this ? I thought the Leica 24-70 f2.8 was the same as the sigma 24-70 f2.8 v1

Leica's pdf is easy to find on their site. Sigma's global site has a section for discontinued lenses. Look at the part where they list the number of special elements. It is different (Leica has more). The rear group also looks larger in Leica's diagram, which may explain the lower vignetting and higher corner sharpness that some reviewers found. Sigma's V2 lens switched to a larger diameter rear group, among many other changes.

dare? I thought both were well known.

Yes, but when I read tests of several rebranded lenses, the tester fails to comment on this. For example, when Reid reviewed the SL 2/35 (non-apo) - not a word about the relationship with Panasonic.

Perhaps he thought it was well known also.

It would be interesting to have a reviewer such as Reid do a side-by-side review of the Leica and Panasonic lenses (cousins?) that seem to be based on the same design. Reid has on occasion compared Sigma and Leica lenses of the same focal length. That being said, there appears to be a decent amount of reviews that reference the shared parentage of these lenses. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised when John Slack mentioned in his review not only the relationship between the Leica 28-70 and the Sigma, but also generally how many quite exceptional lenses are being put out by the various members of the L Mount Alliance.
