SL2-S overwriting/eating images like SL3??

We have four SL2-S bodies of varying age. None newer than a year or so, all have been to plenty of shoots and are well and regularly used. 

We were on a job recently and my partner was shooting right next to me on one of the bodies. The next day as I was preparing images for the client, I couldn't find a small chunk of photos on her cards. I was shooting some film on one of our R8's at that moment, and she was giving the client direction while she was shooting. She's very experienced, we've been shooting together for years and we never delete or format *anything* on a job and of course we don't reuse cards until an edit is done.

There is no skip in the file name of the missing time, it goes from xxxxxx7 to xxxxxx8 etc but with a chunk of time in between. I have checked the cards (shooting to slot one DNG, slot 2 JPG) multiple times both in the camera individually and by plugging into a computer. 

Anyone else experience this? We will be reporting to Leica and updating firmware. Not sure what version this is but it hasn't been updated in at least a year, however we have had zero issues prior to this one.

I have never had that problem except maybe the loss of 1 photo when the battery died while shooting. And again when the SL2-S became unresponsive while taking successive bursts (at 9fps, i.e. with mechanical shutter). A battery removal corrected it. Nothing like your experience.

My latter experience suggests the SL2-S can get confused if it's trying to write to buffer or card while you are trying to take more shots. Could your partner have been taking a lot of shots in close succession?

Thanks for weighing in- no, these weren't shots in quick succession, as they were just a few portraits and we had plenty of time to do them so not rushing.

I have never seen this in the last 5-6 years on the SL2 Sl2s

Only the SL3 had a firmware issue that has already been fixed.

No, five or six years with the SL2 and SL2S and never had this issue...

LraStn,  Same here, never once had this issue with either the SL2 or SL2-S.   You might email Leica Customer Care and share the experience and if possible include a copy of the file numbering.  Also, you might check the write speed of the SD card used and try a new and formatted in camera SD card.  I always format my SD card after every download and use SD Card Formatter software after every 5 shoots.   r/ Mark

PS  I always use Delkin Devices Black 64 GB SDXC UHS II cards in my SL2(s), never an issue with these cards.

were you using ES or MS [shutter]

Never had an issue as well (Sl2/sl2s), and never read about it either (unless the bug from the SL3, which has been solved).

The only thing which came to my mind, is that she switched bodies, and the images are on another camera. Sounds stupid, but it might happen during an event and you work with multiple bodies.

It is a sh@tty feeling though to find out images are missing, sorry to hear that.

Never had an issue as described, SL2, SL2s and not even with SL3, also curious about any news?
