Pieter12 Posted May 1 Share #2 Posted May 1 So you can reverse it on the lens for storage?
jaapv Posted May 1 Author Share #3 Posted May 1 Of course not but it is compact enough not to need it. I carry my lenses to use and dislike fiddling with hoods when swapping them out. So I always replace the hoods with more practical ones when applicable.. Sigma is even worse. Their reversed hoods tend to break in the bag. Leica makes some nice ones for their M lenses. For instance the wideangle ones are often non-reversible rectangles. This is a favourite daily combo: Summilux-M 24 and Summicron SL 50 One on the camera, one in the pocket Welcome, dear visitor! I'll upset the apple cart, love the hood that came with my Summicron 50mm, do not like that rectangular hood it looks hideous. Sorry.
wattsy Posted May 6 Share #6 Posted May 6 (edited) Yes, the reversible petal shape hoods are absolutely fine. I only really use two lenses on my SL2-S and either leave the hood on reversed (Lumix 100mm Macro – I like to minimise the length of the lens to avoid spooking the butterflies that I photograph with it) or leave it off altogether (35mm Summilux-M ASPH). Having an EVF it is easy to see if flare is an issue and, on those occasions, I either put the hood on, or more often, just shield the lens with my hand or hat. Sorry. Matter of taste, I suppose. Quite a few of my original Leica lenses have square hoods. Either that or vented.

I don't have an issue with rectangular hoods my Q3 has one, the hoods for 18mm and 35mm lenses on my Fuji X-Pro1 were square, it is just the image that you have posted makes the hood look very odd and wrong for the lens, taken from a different angle the hood may look great on it. But as you say each to our own. 🙂
