I purchased four batteries when I bought my M10 new from Leica.  Two of the batteries stopped working and now a third one drains quickly.  It feel uncomfortable going out with "1.5 batteries" for a day of shooting with some use of "live view".

Wondering:

- what is the expected battery life with moderate use?

- is there any coverage / discounts for replacements if the batteries are over two years old?

- where/what would you buy if you are try to save some $s?

Thank you.

Thank you.

In my M10 manual, some care must be done to keep battery life.

What we forget is charging twice a year if stored for long period.

The warranty on batteries only goes up to two years (I checked with Leica in New Jersey).  Agree that generics are risky ... was just wondering if anyone had tried.  My batteries all get a lot of use and maybe abuse ... I keep charging them before they are fully drained, and don't pay particular attention to spreading my use across batteries.  Also, my M10 might be due for a CLA -- the battery contacts would need to be looked at in that process.  The charger seems fine but its contacts are loose.

I bought an M10 Monochrom Wetzlar edition camera earlier this year. It came in the original packaging with all the standars accessories and documents including the battery which charges fully and works fine. However these are not long life batteries so I bought a second. That one also works fine but since then my attempt to find a third OEM has been frustrating. Nobody had one in stock. I got on several waiting lists and eventually two arrived from different dealers in sealed original packaging. Both have failed to charge properly and if left in the charger long enough the lights on the charger both flash rapidly. When placed in the camera nothing at all happens. I read somewhere that it may be a chip issue. I returned one today. The other will go back as soon as I can a return authorization. For $200 I expect a working battery!

My M8 and M9 batteries (2006-2007) (same are still in pretty good shape......

I still have M8 and M9 batteries in use some of which were aftermarket clones.  I have one waning M10R battery, my backup ($210) failed quickly. regards, ron .

i have been using leica cameras since the 1970's . i love using these cameras and i have been willing to spend the expensive cost to use

the digital ms , but the situation with the batteries , particularly with the m10 , is really unacceptable , it is a disgrace . a $200

battery that doesn't hold a charge , and now is unavailable . i have batteries for other cameras which are 1/10th the cost and have held

their charge , when unused , for a year . generic m8 batteries are readily available . leica has a responsibility to release the proprietary

chip and allow generic companies the make m batteries .

M9 batteries held charge very well - seems like they could have made M10 batteries do so too.

Is anyone related to this site advocating for Leica to ramp production back up for batteries (Leica BP-SCL5) for our M10 cameras? These cameras have only been out 8 years.

Thanks for letting me know. I am okay for now (with two) but the idea that these would be in short supply for my M10 is un settling to say the least!

Sales always rebound amazingly after a market shortage, so I hope Leica USA is prepared for that.

Do you have some news that they will be shipping to the US again?

I am happy to report that Tamarkin's Camera is sending me a new unused BP SCL5 at 200. shipped. I imagine that Tamarkin Camera has been good about stocking batteries for older models so I will look to them again. I confess that this time 'round I didn't inquire at Glazers my more local camera store. They also continue to stock Leica new and used.

More are out there (in Germany) and I imagine from my emailing with Scott there, that they'll re-stock them. Here's to hoping!
