startover Posted December 7, 2022 Share #1  Posted December 7, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased four batteries when I bought my M10 new from Leica. Two of the batteries stopped working and now a third one drains quickly. It feel uncomfortable going out with "1.5 batteries" for a day of shooting with some use of "live view". Wondering: - what is the expected battery life with moderate use? - is there any coverage / discounts for replacements if the batteries are over two years old? - where/what would you buy if you are try to save some $s? Thank you.

jaapv Posted December 7, 2022 Share #2 Â Posted December 7, 2022 My M8 batteries (2006-2007) are still in pretty good shape, my M9 ones (2009-2013) are good.

My M10 manual every four years - is there any coverage / discounts for replacements if the batteries are over two years old? Ask your Leica dealer may be the best move. - where/what would you buy if you are try to save some $s? I never see third party M10 battery Thank you. In my M10 manual, some care must be done to keep battery life. What we forget is charging twice a year if stored for long period.    Welcome, dear visitor! darylgo Posted December 8, 2022 Share #4  Posted December 8, 2022 That doesn't sound normal, give your Leica dealer and distributor a call to see what they can do for you. Does the charger work as it should?
startover Posted December 19, 2022 Author Share #5  Posted December 19, 2022 The warranty on batteries only goes up to two years (I checked with Leica in New Jersey). Agree that generics are risky ... was just wondering if anyone had tried. My batteries all get a lot of use and maybe abuse ... I keep charging them before they are fully drained, and don't pay particular attention to spreading my use across batteries. Also, my M10 might be due for a CLA -- the battery contacts would need to be looked at in that process. The charger seems fine but its contacts are loose. Siriusone59 Posted December 20, 2022 Share #6  Posted December 20, 2022 The only generic battery I've seen is for the Q.  Probably because the same battery was used in a Panasonic.  I have one as a spare but it only  gets used when needed and is promptly replaced when the Leica battery is recharged.
Jolly Jim Posted October 3, 2024 Share #7 Â Posted October 3, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought an M10 Monochrom Wetzlar edition camera earlier this year. It came in the original packaging with all the standars accessories and documents including the battery which charges fully and works fine. However these are not long life batteries so I bought a second. That one also works fine but since then my attempt to find a third OEM has been frustrating. Nobody had one in stock. I got on several waiting lists and eventually two arrived from different dealers in sealed original packaging. Both have failed to charge properly and if left in the charger long enough the lights on the charger both flash rapidly. When placed in the camera nothing at all happens. I read somewhere that it may be a chip issue. I returned one today. The other will go back as soon as I can a return authorization. For $200 I expect a working battery! mort linder Posted January 11 Share #9  Posted January 11 i have been using leica cameras since the 1970's . i love using these cameras and i have been willing to spend the expensive cost to use the digital ms , but the situation with the batteries , particularly with the m10 , is really unacceptable , it is a disgrace . a $200 battery that doesn't hold a charge , and now is unavailable . i have batteries for other cameras which are 1/10th the cost and have held their charge , when unused , for a year . generic m8 batteries are readily available . leica has a responsibility to release the proprietary chip and allow generic companies the make m batteries .

DwF Posted January 14 Share #11  Posted January 14 Is anyone related to this site advocating for Leica to ramp production back up for batteries (Leica BP-SCL5) for our M10 cameras? These cameras have only been out 8 years. David
Chris W Posted January 14 Share #12 Â Posted January 14 I bought a new M10 battery in London on Friday. No problem. I don't know what the issue is with US battery supply.
charlesphoto99 Posted January 14 Share #13  Posted January 14 My wife brought me back one from Dusseldorf (to the US) a couple of weeks ago. Right now, if you are in the US (and perhaps Asia or elsewhere) traveling to the UK or EU is the only way to get a brand new one.
DwF Posted January 14 Share #14 Â Posted January 14 Thanks for letting me know. I am okay for now (with two) but the idea that these would be in short supply for my M10 is un settling to say the least!

TomB_tx Posted January 14 Share #16 Â Posted January 14 Sales always rebound amazingly after a market shortage, so I hope Leica USA is prepared for that.

DwF Posted January 16 Share #18 Â Posted January 16 I am happy to report that Tamarkin's Camera is sending me a new unused BP SCL5 at 200. shipped. I imagine that Tamarkin Camera has been good about stocking batteries for older models so I will look to them again. I confess that this time 'round I didn't inquire at Glazers my more local camera store. They also continue to stock Leica new and used.
