I'm a new D-Lux 8 user, and I've seen on-line how the user profiles can be assigned to the thumbwheel button; in the manual it says to hold the button down for an extended time and your choices will appear. You select one, in my case User Profiles, and then press the button. I've done that, but it only works if you start from the default User Profile mode. When starting with all other User Profiles, it either brings up the ISO screen, or nothing at all. Has anyone been able to successfully accomplish reassigning that button? Or is this a bug in the firmware. I'm using 1.4.

I figured it out.

When I was initially setting up my cam, I had the same button behavior as you. I then figured out, if you make setting changes while in the Default Profile, the camera will remember the changes.

If you go to User Profile1-3, select one, then make a change to a setting (like a button function), it will forget the changes and default back to the original profile settings after a power cycle.

If you are in User Profile 1-3 and change a setting, you have to go into Manage Profiles, select that profile, and save it.

My  thumb wheel button now goes to User Profiles in Default Profile, and User Profile 1.

Good luck.

P.S. The Leica D-Lux 8 user manual is far and away the worst camera manual I have ever read.

Worse, nobody has put out a good book on the full use of this camera and its settings & operation. All the D-Lux 8 books on amazon seem like poorly compiled AI efforts that don't really apply to this camera.
