I once got shown a Leica IIIc with a red serial, which I sceptically  dismissed as a repaint.
this was serial 423676.

Now another red serial iiic has surfaced. Camera 423624.

Does anyone here own a camera in the 4236xx range such as these.
After all these may be genuine.

Difficult to think of a 3rd party job... the only "analytical" book that I have (Giunta) does not cover this range, that surely belongs to a complex timeframe to track. Unless someone has some precise info about,  reasons to distinguish in this way the s/n in a certain batch can be imagined, but is pure speculation... 😗

(a RED s/n makes to think of RED curtains... but serials do not match...)

Hey.. a bit of googling said that the above camera is still around 😎 https://classicconnection.com/product/leica-iiic-chrome-camera-1946-47-unusual-camera-with-red-serial-number-with-leica-50-35-elmar-lens-ex/

Small vague clue : it's in USA... items sold to US Army people, assembled with factory parts and numbered as "unofficial commercial delivery"...???

Looks nice with red, whether done in the factory or afterwards. I'd love to know why.

There seem to have been a number of different shades of red used at the factory usually quite dark. The red in your picture Giuliobigazzi is quite bright.

The only thing I know is that one of these got delivered to A.E.S OFFENBACH.
Not sure if this means anything but one could assume they all got delivered there.

Similar to the red on the Meter and Feet inscribed shoe mounted viewfinders, such as a SHOOC.

Just to add to the confusion/intrigue I have a couple of red dial iiif bodies one of which has the Leica inscription in red, here's a picture. All good fun! Perhaps certain engravers did it for fun, to see if they could slip it through QC? I doubt it was done to order.

If it adds anything... the iiif that is engraved Leica in red is a camera originally sold in Switzerland. My other iiif which is engraved Leica in black was originally sold in the United States. I can't imagine that is the reason, however, for the differences in colour of paint fill.
