Last year I bought the 35mm asph v2. Though 35mm is not for me, I also didnt like its rendering.

I do have a 50mm lux asph (not latest version) and a sonnar 50mm. Both great in its own way, but not for everyone day life ( the lux is a silver one and rather heavy)

So I was thinking of a cron v5. My dealer has a very nice one for sale second hand.

Now I’m wondering if the rendering of the 50 equals the 35 or not? After all the 50 is mandler designed and not sure which design is the 35.

How do you feel about this?

btw: my first Leica lens was a 50mm summicron v2 which I loved output wise

I need to correct myself, the 50mm cron is NOT asph.

The Cron 50mm V doesn't have the same harshness of the 35mm Cron ASPH.

PM me if you want to look at some DNG sample images from the CRON.

Harsh… that’s indeed how I would describe the 35mm asph v2. Way too harsh for my liking. Good to hear that the 50 is leas harsh.

I see no harshness out of the 35/2 asph v2 but i prefer the 35/2 v4 to match 50/2 v4 or v5 lenses. Matter of tastes but if you find the 35/2 asph v2 too harsh, you should perhaps try a 50/2 v1, v2 or v3.

Cron v4 or v2/3 would probably fit you the best. APSH is very sharp but clinical and not the most interesting lens. The lux 35 asph for has lots of character while being very sharp so it could be an option too

I agree. I found the 50cron IV always better than the V because of better flare-resistance, thus more bite.

I own both German 50/2 v4 and v5 Summicrons, and i don't see the least difference IQ wise between them. I used to have an early Canadian 50/2 v4 though and it had a bit more flare due to different coatings apparently. FWIW.

Thanks for your offer. However, I guess I need to see it with my way of photographing. Will visit my dealer next week…
