first chrome plated Leica wass Leica II, second half of1932. This camera was originally black painted with nickeled knobs/lens. Engravings are very shallow, typical sign of being black painted

I don‘t know wether you must ignore the statement in your linked „first test“:

„My review camera, sadly, was not supplied to me by Oskar Barnack himself. Instead I bought it at the South London Camera Fair in Bexley a couple of weeks ago. Manufactured in 1929, it came from a noted collector of Leica I models, Malcolm Glanfield. Connoisseurs will notice immediate that this is a non-standard device. The original black finish has been factory converted to nickel and new-fangled strap lugs have been added. Other than that it is bog-standard, with simple viewfinder (no rangefinder) and a fixed f/3.5 50mm Elmar lens. The Leica LTM (thread or screw mount) came later.“

And doesn‘t the second example of a „0-Series“ look like nickel?

Has this been made on order at Leitz or was fixed by someone for fraudulent purposes.

There is a third option:  the paint was worn or damaged and the owner preferred a more modern look.

Have you contacted Leica archives with the question?  info@leica-camera.com

Karsov, your assumption is wrong.  Leica AG will check the delivery records in their archives which include the configuration of the camera, the party the camera was delivered to, and the delivery date.  If the camera went back to them for modification, they may also have a record.  Just send them an email with the serial number and your pictures.  This is a unique service not offered by any other manufacturer.
