Great for posting these pictures. I wondered about using a closeup lens on the 43 and made some calculation and according to these the free working distance should be very short. I calculated below 40mm at minimal distance with the elpro 52 (+7 Diopter). Using a lower diopter achromat should increase the working distance but with lower magnification. One reason these calculations are not quite correct is that lenses with IF shorten the effective focal length (which varies by specific lens) when focusing close which decreases the free working distance.

I think I'm going to love this little camera.

Really gorgeous looking images all, definitely a camera I would love using. Alas, as I can find no case for adding one to the work kit, it will remain above my pay grade but I will be enjoying all the photos posted

It's best when disputes end with peaceful reconciliation.  At first I thought these guys knew each other and were playing around, but not so.  This sequence of events unfolded out of the blue in seconds, and the Q3 43 was up to the task.  I think if I had been using a M camera I would not have been able to nail focus (ok, the camera focused on the young man's shoulder on that last frame, but that was split second stuff).  This frame is f/2.0, so I would have swung the camera onto the nose of one of the men to patch focus, then re-composed, but by then the moment would have been gone.

Quite a bit of excitement for my first day out with the Q3 43.

A really nice series in documentary style! And I like your b&w conversion a lot, Tim! I wish you much fun with the new camera and hope to see more pictures 🙂

Excellent work, @Npod! In the darker months to come I will have to try out my Elpro lenses with the Q3 43, too. I don't have that much experience, but I recently bought some LED lights for indoor use and with your inspiration I will probably take some macro shots of my watches.

It should work well for watch and product photography. I typically use the SL3 with the Panasonic 100mm L mount macro lens for detailed product photography (in the studio). But I believe that Q3 43 with the Elpro 52 attached will provide equally impressive quality. And it will be a portable solution for shows that I photograph (watches, knives, pipes). I have used the Q/Q2/Q3 for such events until now. But the wide angle macro never produced images that I loved.

More macro images from the Q3 43 (literally “straight out of camera”). Only cropped. No sliders or adjustments. Yeah, this is a very good option for macro photography. It is a fabulous camera and lens combination and a system that can be used for many different genres of photography. All in a small form factor. I will keep my Q3 28, but I’m sure I will use the Q3 43 much more often.

Note: the original DNG files show mind blowing details that are not shown well on these resized and compressed images.
