Leica M10P Screen Issues (pattern)?

Hello,

My name is Eric, and I am new to the forum. I have recently purchased a Leica M10-P and am experiencing some issues with the screen. The overall functionality seems fine, but for some odd reason, during playback or live view, my screen sometimes flickers and turns purplish with strange patterns.

I wanted to know if any of the members have encountered this issue before. I have contacted Leica repair through email but have not yet received a reply. If anyone has encountered this issue, how much did it cost to repair? My guess is that either the LCD, motherboard, or sensor has an issue somewhere. I usually don't use live view much, so it's not a huge problem, but knowing my camera is faulty, I would like to repair it if possible.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Didn't know there was a special Tetris Edition...

Sorry - bad jokes aside, your guess is likely right: some kind of electronic failure. Leica will ask you to send it in and will give you a quote for the repair. Depending on the issue, they *might* do it for free. In addition to potentially significant cost, your biggest concern should be Wetzlar's 'geological' service timelines. Sadly, there are no independent technicians who would be able to do the job.

The above assumes that returning the camera is not an option. Otherwise, that's what I would do.

Yes, thought about that, but the OP mentioned that the problem affects LV too and I don't see how it could be related to the SD card being used. But the M11 freeze saga has shown that everything's possible, so why not.

I had pretty much the same thing happening to my M10-R LCD, ( I think the M10-R and the M10-P share the same screen ), the Leica Store where I bought the camera from sent it back to Leica / Wetzlar for repair/replacement of the LCD, luckily at the time it was still just within the 2 year warranty, though by the time I got the camera back the warranty was long expired. If you bought it from a Leica dealer or Leica store and as it's a recent purchase they should cover this work under a warranty, hopefully that's the case.....Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm glad it's just the LCD and not something more serious like the motherboard or circuits. After you got the LCD replaced, did the problem come back, or is it fixed now? Also, did you have this issue happen a lot? It's hard for me to replicate the LCD problem.

I bought the camera from a private seller, so I'm probably out of luck with the warranty. Unfortunately, the seller stopped replying to me after I notified about this issue. Maybe he knew about it but sold it anyway since it doesn't happen often. I'll remember this for next time and consider buying new or from a Leica store. Lesson learned.

Yes I am aware of the SD card issues. So I have tried Sandisk Extreme pro 200mb/s, Sandisk Extreme 180 mb/s, and Extreme 170 mb/s. They all show the same problem. I guess it was worth trying. Thank you for your reply. The Tetris Edition was a good one :]

If you know a better SD card for Leica M10 series please let me know :] Thank you.

The problem with the LCD on my M10-R was intermittent, twice I took it into the Store but it would not "miss-behave", so the next time it started to flicker etc etc I recorded it on a mobile 'phone and them emailed the file to the dealership, that did the trick, they took the camera in and sent it to Wetzlar. I only recently got it back but it's behaving well now. I don't know if just the LCD was replaced or other "bits" too, but it works and that's the main thing............

It sounds like the seller may well have noticed this intermittent failing and sold the camera ASAP...........Sorry if that's the case, but why would he not respond to you?.........And you're right, a lesson learned, sometimes the best thing about a Leica M, new or second hand, is a warranty!

I’m curious why you choose such a high capacity card? Try a plain old 64 mb Sandisk card.

The information I provided was the speed of the card. So they were 64 Gb so the capacity is not too large. After looking at your comment, I tried my really old SD card with 32 GB with 90 mb/s card. I am surprised so far not showing these symptoms. I have used two batteries already keeping the live view on to see the problem. Strange but other card shows this issue after about 15 min of LV…. Issue is gone when using 90 mb/s speed card for some reason… I am not sure what to make of it. I think I will send my camera to NJ Leica to have it looked at by the technician but thank you for the comments, for now it remedied the problem.

Bazinga. A solution. You now know the card is the issue. You don’t need all that speed as the camera doesn’t, or can’t, use it.
