I tried a friend's MATE last year and didn't like it's physical length on the M body, way too much VF blockage, it's results were "ok" but nothing that would make the lens an attractive proposition for me.

I already have the Summicron 35 f2 Asph... My current lens is fantastic and serves me well. My interest in the MATE relates to my desire to not change lenses in the field. The MATE allows you to have 3 focal lengths in one package. I was / am trying to avoid buying two cameras. Months later, I am now thinking about getting a second M10 and adding a 75mm f2.4... thus I'd have one body with a 35mm lens and a second with a 75mm lens. I am just not all that excited about spending $5000 or so make this happen.

Though V1 has a very shallow dedicated built-in lens hood , Leica offered a square external hood. It helps to reduce flare, but did not fixed the weird ghost flare. V2 is meant to fixed the problem but the external dedicated round hood is still much appreciated. 

In my experience, the V2 flare can be consciously avoided, but V1 flare is simply unpredictable. That is why I gave up V1.  

By the way, I had V2 while I had M9. I found the 6-bit code and the on-body FL switch is very useful to work with LR lens correction.  Since I had no ZM lens correction, it beats ZM 28mm in the “Xmas light” aberration problem. .

Bruce, with careful choice of viewpoint, and skillful use of your left hand, you can markedly reduce the risk of vignetting when using any lens.

Hello again, as I said in the previous post the main thing I didn't like about the MATE was it's size and the VF obstruction, otherwise it seemed pretty decent.........

Compare it with three separate prime lenses and the MATE will not look massive.

In real use, I forget the problem after a while like using large hood on my other 28mm lenses (Summicron-M 28 for example).

In doubt, I can use liveview but for these days very rarely/never.

Since I have EVF, the view finder obstruction has never show up.

Yes, agree, my e49 MATE does block the 28mm viewfinder a bit in the lower right,  but I just had to mount it now to take a fresh look, as I really never noticed before or at least found it very bothersome or inhibiting. My 28 lux (yes, it’s a large lens) blocks more of the viewfinder than my e49 MATE for comparison.
