Hi! Just got a Q3 today. The image stabiliser of my camera seems to be permanently active - even when the camera is not moved (e. g. when it sits on a table). I can hear the typical stabiliser-noises from within the camera. I have set it to "Auto". Is it normal that it's active all the time? This would drain the batteries pretty quick?! The IS of my Canons aren't active when the camera isn't moved.

Thanks!

Peter

My Q3 even with OIS in an OFF state has a hum, or whir noise about it. Something electronic is certainly engaged or energised and it can be heard even at power on.

Like IBIS, Q3's OIS may require power to keep it centered. However, that should not consume much power.

My Q3 chews through more battery power than a teenager buying merch at a taylor swift concert. I considered sending it back to Leica but it would be cheaper for me just buying a 3rd battery instead of months of waiting for service to probably send it back No fault found.

Do you run your Q3 in EVF extended mode? Do you have Fotos turned off?  EVF/LCD and extensive communication with the smartphone consume most of the power in all cameras I know of.

My settings:

  • EVF EXtended,
  • OIS OFF and
  • fotos comms OFF ( no bluetooth or wifi ).
  • standby at shortest interval

And it still drains quick. Lets say that I can place a fresh battery clean off the charger and in 30mins of walking around with the occasional shot, my battery indicator goes down to 3/4

If it was a cheap a$$ sony, I would have demanded a replacement. I really can't be bothered sending it back to Germany.

Hmph. Are you using the new or the old battery model?

I often use the Q3 in always-on mode (no power saving), bluetooth on, Leica FOTOS app in eco-mode, in other words: unfavourable conditions for power consumption. The camera runs about 2 hours on a fully-charged battery in this way. When I use power saving, the battery lasts much longer. So it seems there's something wrong with your Q3 or that one or the other setting unexpectedly drains the battery. I'd try a reset to factory settings, who knows. And maybe update to the latest firmware 2.0.3, if you didn't already.
