I agree.

Sensor/software/etc. can be adapted at will,

but the lens/glass choosen can not be "betrayed".

After researching this topic of the “Leica Look”, we have an interesting answer/ conclusion.

The Leica Look is an image that looks detailed without the sharpness…!

The “Leica Look” deals with the Leica glass design.  To give great detail without the annoying sharpness…!

Does this image qualified ?

I don't know why this pleases me a lot, with some grains.

seen here

with Summar 5cm the lens rendering I can not duplicate with other means ( sensor is great but film is much more pleasant)

Just shot with the new Leica Summicron Rigid and compared with the Zeiss Planar 50mm f/2, the Rigid has a much nicer, buttery, detailed look without the excessive sharpness…!

Does the Leica look only applicable to JPEG?  I have been only shooting raw, am I doing something wrong?

The Leice MD262 shoots only RAW but my computer sends in JPEG…!

nope i cannot, and i didn't know humans could distinguish lens characteristics at f4-f16 :)

I can clearly see the difference on my computer in RAW.

It’s understandable not distinguishing the differences in JPEG…!

The top photo shows a cloud resembling a man and hat!

2 different exposures, and the focus also seems to be at different zones.

anyway as long as you're convinced that's what matters right? :)

Taken weeks apart at the same location.

At my end, looking at the screen with the RAW images, shows the Rigid buttery smooth and detailed whilst the Zeiss renders with excessive sharpness…!

Anthony,

very good that you see in RAW images the differences.

It's just the beginning of a journey in lenses discovery.

Don't sell the Zeiss Planar too soon, I think that "excessive sharpness" which bother you now can (could) be the thing you need in future.

After that you can explore if you want other lenses (not only 50mm but why not Summar, Summarit, Summilux, Noctilux and so many other brands).

Or just take pictures happily with what you have.

Ahhh, so the Leica look is simply veiling flare? Flat shadows and dull highlights.
