evikne Posted May 25 Share #1 Posted May 25 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lately I think the image previews in the forum threads have improved, I no longer feel as much of a need to click on them to see the images in higher resolution. Is this just my imagination? Does anyone know if any changes have been made here? If so, that's positive. But another change is more annoying: Images in portrait format are now displayed in the full width of the browser window, which makes them too large when viewed on a PC or laptop; you have to scroll down to see the whole image. Something should have been done to limit the size of these.
Advertisement Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Hi evikne, Take a look here Two thoughts on the image previews (one good and one bad). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

evikne Posted June 2 Author Share #3 Posted June 2 On 1/21/2020 at 2:06 PM, LUF Admin said: Uploaded images are resized to two different files Thread display images have a maximum width (or height) of 1,092 px Lightbox images (shown after click) will have 2,480 px I did a test now, and as I thought, the preview size is now much larger, actually it is doubled: The width of the previews in the forum threads are now 2184 px! The lightbox size is unchanged. So it's no longer as necessary to click on the images to see them in higher resolution. Of course, the lightbox can still be useful if you want to see an image on a dark background, or if you want to see an entire image in portrait mode without having to scroll down. evikne Posted August 23 Author Share #4 Posted August 23 (edited) Regarding the display size of images in portrait format, it annoys me so much that I've found a couple of workarounds: If the images are small enough (about 800 pixels at the short side), they will display more correctly. So I've created an export preset in LR where the short side is limited to 800 pixels, which I can apply to images in portrait format. This works fine, but it comes at the expense of image quality. Using the Mogrify LR plugin, I've also created another export preset. The width/short side is first limited to 1600 pixels, and then Mogrify adds 440 pixels of white to each side of the image, bringing the total width to 2480 pixels (the recommended size in the forum). This prevents the image from being too wide on a computer screen, but works less well on a mobile screen where you don't need this limitation. Welcome, dear visitor! I've noticed that images linked from Flickr appear crisp and nice, and the display size in the forum threads is the same whether the image is in portrait or landscape format. I don't know how they achieve this, but it's certainly something I wish this forum could do as well. evikne Posted August 23 Author Share #5 Posted August 23 If anyone doesn't quite understand what I'm talking about, I've made this illustration, which is supposed to represent a forum thread in three versions, with the avatar in the top left, to clarify the size relationship between the images. What I'd like to see is a forum that can display images in the same size regardless of the aspect ratio. Welcome, dear visitor!
