Any interest in a quick meeting in Rotterdam in April ‘24?

It is time for a new event in Rotterdam. me-thinks.

Rather than an elaborate thing, lets just do it more informal.

Suggested dates are April 19 or 20 next month. Would that be feasable to you?

  • Simple that is - without big reservations in restaurants and coffee-houses, just some loitering around.

A team of 4-5 should be possible in this short time-frame.

  • We had a meeting with 12 in 2019 in Rotterdam, and previously with @jip in 2015. We had quite an international following those times, such as @satijntje@pegelli, @Dan Bachmann

Please indicate interest, preferences or alternatives.

And maybe some highlights ?

Probably it is again too short a notice to get a visa @farnz 😙 (I’ve got a life-time visa for some countries .)

@Alberti & @Maarten

Hello Albert and Maarten,
unfortunately also a too short notice for us as well as we have a rendez-vous already with Leica friends in Bingen am Rhein (D) on the 19th April.
The rest of April is also very busy, so we are very sorry that you cannot count on us that month.
Wishing you a great time in Rotterdam!

Nice idea Albert and Maarten. The friday and saturday you mention (April 19 and 20) are both possible for me. Let me know when a final date is fixed.

I have no real preference for which parts of Rotterdam to walk through, I leave it up to you to find some interesting but less touristy spots.

Indeed a nice reportage John!

I never attended a Leica meeting in Rotterdam, but I participated in Tilburg:

And organised Antwerp together with @rjans:

So I'm certainly looking forward to a Leica meeting in the city I visited often as a teenager, where my parents were born and where work of my grandfather is still on display today!

If you had floated the idea of an April trip back in January I'd have been up for it. But being now in my 80s, I can only afford one spring break, and I booked that back in early February.

Hi Roy, apologies for so late planning, that is the (nature) of our budding of ideas . .  plans can grow ad-hoc in spring.

Anyway the venue is planned for the Saturday 20th of april. The on-boarding list:

Maarten

Pieter

Jaap

Michiel

Meself

Zewife ?

^^ Nice, poetry by our "dichter des vaderlands"on De Luchtsingel.

Do we meet there or do you have another place in mind to start? And what time?

I found out there's an hourly train service from Noorderkempen (~20 min from where I live) to Rotterdam C.S. that has just one stop in Breda and only takes 49 minutes.
So it looks very attractive to come by train and avoid all the busy traffic and parking trouble in Rotterdam on saturday.

Damn, just found out there's works on the line Antwerp-Dordrecht on April 20 and they're running a bus service.

The attractiveness of public transport directly from Belgium just went down below zero 😢

Closest train station with train service to Rotterdam will be Roosendaal or Lage Zwaluwe. I might still consider that, we'll see.

I fully agree Albert, these get togethers are all about fun and taking photos of each other (usually not the best photos of ones portfolio)

Albert,

Thank you for including me and it's been more than ten years since I stayed in Rotterdam so it's time I came back and I would have been interested in coming along and seeing old friends and acquaintances again but unfortunately I won't be available.

I hope you all have a very pleasant (and dry!) get together and I urge you all to eat a little too much, drink a little too much, tell outrageous stories, and laugh with abandon (now you've been told to do so it's no longer your fault! 😄).

Pete.

I'm looking forward to visiting Rotterdam again ☺️

Lots to see there, for instance the Bauhaus appartments on the Westzeedijk where my grandparents from my mothers side lived (ground floor, where the blinds are closed)

Rotterdam is a big city of world-wide proportions, but altogether, it is also a miniature world . . .
