In Hong Kong, the brand new of this SR silver is selling about US$ 4000 only, no tax. Then you wait for a couple of years for the hype to settle down, and the market is full of second hand lenses with half price.

You walk into any of those stores in a small alley which looks sketchy, you can find half price used ones. I don't know anywhere else outside HK though. I’ll be in HK next week and would love to go hunt. I wonder if he’s referring to AGFcameras and rangefinderHK? Those are reputable “alley” camera stores that sell grey market gear. Had excellent customer service from both of those stores, even better than authorized dealers here in Canada.

"No pics" Unlike GigiThePhotographer I do open boxes before buying I didn't even try to take photos of the lens after that. The lens is just like the Classic Reissue Chrome except with a black finish. It looks really great, good that they inverted the distance scale on it. But that's pretty much it, the box well... boxes, once you take it out of the box - you never use or look at those again, at least I don't, so good but ... okay. I decided to sleep on it. I ended up not taking it. It would have been great to have and use but a few things stood out, it's same lens I already have in Chrome, at more than double the price. It looks great but, in my opinion, nothing exceptional warranting such a steep price hike. That's speculative on Leica's part following the 50/1.2 chrome re-issue "debacle". Had it been black paint like I had hoped, I would have bought it. If it had a closer minimum focus distance of 70cm, it would be mine but, no... It's the same lens except in a different colour dress, a damn fine looking colour, but not worth €4000 extra in my opinion. Number 40-Something will go to someone else, someone who will appreciate it more than me, or doesn't already have a chrome re-issue. At this price point I prefer spending a little more, and buy an original, without any of the problems plaguing the reissue. I didn't have any issues with mine, aside from the screw on lens hood which I never used anyways. I'll just have to deal with a vintage older lens issues, but that's okay. Something straight from a Monty Python sketch. This world really needs a reset, Sodoma and Gomorrah style. I could have taking it but I've had a good ongoing relationship with this person. I get access to products quickly and she finds me sold out limited edition items out of her magician's hat. She has been with Leica a long time and she is one of two people who works at Leica that made me loyal to the brand. That really won me over with a great customer first service attitude. They realise we pay a premium and do right by Leica's customers. You also have to understand in Germany there is always a small stock of select limited edition items for "celebrities" and good customers. They keep a few on hands for the 1000 and 2000 batch products, i.e., the Black Paint M10-R , these cameras are all gone by now but a month or two after it was sold out every where, there were still a few in Germany. Not all attributed stock are shipped to the Leica boutiques - at times you can get lucky and get a more special item this way. You don't get this level of personalised service by not respecting the person you have dealt with for a few years over a limited issue product over a couple of photos. Imagine buying a limited edition premium lens, new inbox only to find photos of it later on, online. Anyhoo... It's out of respect, I am not taking pictures of products to show online - I am a visual guy. If I can see it, I usually buy it. This is why I had her open the box, and she could have said no. Just glad I am on that priority list at time, I had the limited edition mate black Summicron in hand also, didn't purchase it, opted for a 28 Lux instead, the 28 Summicron is nothing special. Both the Lux and Elmarit are better in my opinion (Oh the infamy let the vilifications begin!) The Classic 35 Steel Rim re-issue is in that camp, nothing special - except against the light at f/4 to f/5.6 where it's a real champ. But then again the original is better. charlesphoto99 Posted March 23, 2024 Share #97 Posted March 23, 2024 $11K??? Lol, my fist Leica lens was a used black 35 pre-ash 'lux when I got my first M6 back in 1996.
