Olaf_ZG Posted March 9, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) During the last three years I ended up with four Leica lenses, five Zeiss lenses and two from VL. Going back to one body only (the m10m), I guess 11 lenses is too much. Regarding VL, i have a 35mm and a 75mm nokton. The latter draws great for portraits, and the first one will need to go. It’s not to my taste. Zeiss, my old love since the 500cm and contax g1. They are so cheap, yet great. Silly to sell. the 50mm summilux and 28mm summaron are wonderful on the mm. But then, I don’t need a 24 elmar or 35 summicron. Though great, I could trade them in for the elmarit 90-280. I know it is “not done” nor wise to sell leica lenses, but still…

RexGig0 Posted March 9, 2024 Share #7 Posted March 9, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I would find it very difficult to sell an Elmar-M 24mm ASPH. Even though I rarely use the 24mm focal length, when I do, well, the Elmar is most wonderful. If I were to sell or trade an Elmar, it could be quite difficult to replace it, if I decide that I really should have kept it. The SL 90-280mm Elmarit seems to be quite a handful, or, two hands’ full. For reference, I have a Nikkor 80-400mm SLR/DSLR lens, which weighs 1570 grams, so, not much lighter than the 1710 grams of the Elmarit. This is a reasonable burden, when I know I will need the “reach.” (When I do use the 80-400, it is normally on a Nikon D5, which probably weighs substantially more than an SL-series Leica camera.) The 90-280 Elmarit may well be a better lens, optically, than my Nikkor. I realize that I have not been very helpful. A clean shelf/sheet is the best starting point for a new endeavour. I’d even go so far as to propose a photographic sabbatical and sell everything except maybe items you may miss dearly like your father’s inherited M3. Seriously. I’ve been there, done it, and it was wonderful. A messy shelf takes away focus, and blurres the photographer’s mind similar to a messy studio that makes a painter procrastinating for ever. And when the shelf is empty, all gear gone and the purse filled, you will start thinking outside the proverbial box. The clean shelf helped me to invent myself anew, turning me from a commercial filmmaker into an environmentalist and photographer. I still write and direct video projects for campaigns in my new industry. But I now rent. I ended up with two film Ms, an SL2-S and three 35mm lenses, plus a 50mm for portraits because I don't need more. I would even sell the SL2-S if I didn’t need it for digitizing. I‘m now waiting for my new Canon 4100 printer to arrive. Edited March 10, 2024 by hansvons 6
Olaf_ZG Posted March 14, 2024 Author Share #9 Posted March 14, 2024 So I listened partially to all of you… I sold a lot, but kept a 21mm biogon, the sonnar and the 75 nokton, as well as three leica lenses. The elmar went though. I also sold a set of EF lenses.

The sonnar is my most beautiful lens (not owning a pre-asph lux), with very soft rendering. Great for nudes and still life where focus isn’t the main thing. Who cares if a nude is slightly oof? The nokton is soft, wide open, making it great for female portraits. The nokton is there when you want focus, but not sharpness. at least, this is how I see them. LeicaR10 Posted March 16, 2024 Share #14 Posted March 16, 2024 Olaf_ZG, You might consider first going through your photo library and see which top 3 or 4 lenses you shot the most. Then keep those in your inventory. If you do landscapes, the 24 Elmar is stellar; excellent color, contrast, near flat field curvature and most landscape photographers who used it, sold it, only to rebuy it. You won't get much for it when you sell it, but it will cost you more to purchase it again. The rest, you have lots of choices. Just remember...the day will most likely arrive when you realize...you need those Leica M lenses once again.... r/ Mark
