Russian Leica thread. One claiming to be prewar Zeiss but probably early postwar Russian occupation built.

ooooohhhh.....

very nice...

I have one of those old Biogon 2.8/35 except mine is black. With its far protruding rear element I haven't had the nerve to mount it on my M11, yet.

Later on in my digital M 'phase' I supplemented the Summicron with a new 1.4 Summilux Asph. FLE - the best every-day, 'leave-it-on-the-camera' M lens I ever owned.

Oh, one more thing........never, ever, sell an M lens, whether you own an M body or not. I still have all of my M lenses and use them occasionally on my SLs via the Leica adapter. They offer image quality one simply cannot duplicate, let alone exceed with any other glass.

I wish they make this model with brass in silver chrome colour, for the sake of colour consistency with the silver chrome body 😊

Well, I also love my silver chrome Summilux-M 50/1,4 as well as my silver chrome Summaron 28/5.6. That's why I often combine these silver lenses with my Super-Elmar-M 21/3.4 which had never been built in silver finish...but you can add a silver hood instead of the black one 😉

Actually, I can add the silver hood on my Summilux-M 35/1.4, on my APO-Summicron-M 35/2 and on my Summicron-M 28/2. Much cheaper than buying extra lenses in silver 😉

Well timed, I was just about to remind you regarding this one as it was not on the list... sold for 99,800 yen new, but now scalpers want 2.5x as much - and up... (I just happen to know this because I was kinda looking for one a month ago).

MAP Camera themselves (hardly scalpers...) have a couple for sale in near-mint condition and with the correct "coarse" hood. Price in JPY is indeed over twice the original list price - although depending on your currency of reference the yen has depreciated by about 25% since 2019. Only 250 of these were made, so I guess it's the price of rarity. While its all-brass construction is beautiful and a joy to use, do bear in mind that its optical design is that of the "regular" v1 and therefore subject to some degree of focus shift.

It is indeed a beautiful lens, but I cant justify paying the "collector's price" for a special edition lens when I can get the improved V2 w/o the flaws for 1/3 of the "collector's price". And TBH if i was going for this lens specifically for the "character look"  (which supposedly mimics the 35mm lux pre-asph v2), I would just spend that amount on an actual user condition 35mm lux pre-asph v2 instead.

A supposedly quite rare silver chrome Summicron-M 28mm. Not mine yet, but after using it for a while and comparing it with Nokton 28mm F1.5 VM II vintage-line lens, I couldn’t find reasonable reasons to buy it.

Maybe it’s me. Not the lens. I don’t how to use this lens to its full potential.

You cannot get the 35mm lux pre-asph for the price - former or current price - of the 35 Nokton MAP.

I am testing this very MAP brass lens right now and it is driving me NUTS on digital - so many flaws (although a stellar centered copy), from brutal field curvature to CA, focus shift and unpredictable results wide open to the image that does not sharpen up critically even at f/8... It is like following a beloved celebrity on social media but knowing they are toxic assholes in real life...

I have been in contact with a few other 35 Nokton MAP owners and they sent over their sample images - the mentioned characteristics are present on all copies, not just mine. This lens is nothing like version II that mimics my ex steel rim remake, it is more like something coming from Miyazaki's shop optically.

I got my 35mm lux pre-asph v2 copy for $1700 a few weeks ago. I guess I was lucky.

Dam sorry to hear about your MAP copy. Was this the one purchased through MAP camera themselves? I remember they had a few copies in their used inventory w/ box a few weeks back and I was debating on buying it.
