Heresy I know and maybe a ticket to join Steven at the local brasserie.....But based on my own experience of buying one recently I'd opt for a LLL Elcan 50 f2 and avoid all the hassle of buying used lenses and hoping you got lucky.

This is precisely how a lens should look like. For my taste, I miss some dust particles, which means it's either meticulously cleaned or digitally touched up. But in dubio pro reo, I'd say go for it. 

Having peace of mind by knowing I bought a good copy for a fair price is super important when buying used stuff, at least for me. 

When you have it in your hand, shoot a landscape at infinity at f2.0 and f4 and check how well it's centred. Leica rarely has an issue with this, but I hate to be surprised at a later stage.

Apples and Oranges. However, the Summicron V4 can be had new in the V5 housing. 

Buying at a reputed dealer is pretty safe. However, you will pay a premium for your peace of mind, return policies, etc. I'm willing to do that and got lucky every time.

And it is nice that it comes with an original hood in decent condition. These are not really cheap either. (between 75 and 100 Euro)

The v5 can be had new, but it’s not as nice as the v4 in terms of ergonomics, weight and size. Between the two (if in mint condition) I’d always go for the v4
