What "standard" M lenses match the look of the M-Rokkor (Summicron-C) 40mm lens?

Hi folks. If I like the look of the images I'm getting from my later M-Rokkor 40mm lens, but I want something that matches the framelines better on my M-P 240 (or any other non-CL body), which version/generation Summicron do I want?Β  I am thinking primarily of the 35mm length, because I think it's closer to the 40mm length.

I love my lens, but I'm a bit fed up with estimating what's in frame.

"What do I love about my lens?" TOUGH QUESTION for me to answer. There is something about the wide-open look that I just love. It is somehow sharp and high contrast, but "gentle" with people. I really cannot describe it. But I just love it.

Side note - I also have a TTartisan 35mm "chinacron" as well as 7Artisans 50mm 1.4, and feeling the urge to get the "real thing" Leica lens.Β

Thanks

In principle at least, you could have 4mm frame lines added to your M viewfinder but I don’t know who would be able to do that for you.

But I’ve read that the 35mm framelines on the M4p and up are really 38mm and work nicely for your lens if you can hold the frame lever in place.Β

thanks. I guess since they were built around the same time, that would make sense.

If I find a V2 lens instead of V3, are they not the same though?

They are both 6 element designs but I am not sure if they are the same though likely. The v2 doesn’t handle very well. It’s shorter but the there’s a tab for the aperture ring and no filter thread. Anyway the v3 and v2 are incredible value in the Leica world at least $1000 cheaper than the v4 and better built.

I have shot both lenses and the v3 35mm Summicron should be similar.Β

Definitely the V3 35/2 Summicron. 6 element Planar, just like the 40/2 Summicron-c.

Yep agree. Β I own the 40:2 and tried to match it - the v3 is most similar. Β Don't sell the 40mm though , IMHO it's better than any of the pre-asph crons v2 to v4Β

Have your Rokkor modified to bring up the 35mm frames. Then shoot inside the lines. I do that all the time with my Summicron 40C. Works so good that I forget that the frames do not match exactly and still get very few accidental cut offs.

thanks. I've seen that that is pretty easy to do - will look into it.

THE DEED IS DONE. I filed it a bit to get the 35mm lines. I think I like this better. I hope so, because it's permanent πŸ™‚

Β

πŸ‘ and it is not really permanent. Someone can add some material to the bajonet (soldering) and bring it back to 50mm
