burchyk Posted December 17, 2023 Share #21 Posted December 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) On lenses I'd like to see more products in the "compact" category. Think along the lines of 28mm Summaron, 50mm Elmar-M, 35mm Summaron. Film body wish list: - lightweight aluminium like the M11; - spot meter with 5 exposure LEDs to get 2 stops of range; - larger viewfinder aperture that will actually allow us to see the 28mm frame; - larger shutter speed dial that can be operated without changing the right hand grip;

Is it less than the Nokton II? I have only test-shot a CV Nokton 35mm f/1.4 II MC on one occasion, inside a coffee shop, for a few shots. Because that occurred several months before I acquired my Re-Edition Classic Summilux-M 35 Steel Rim, I could not directly compare them. My “guesstimate*” is that the Re-Edition Steel Rim has less distortion. Having never shot a brick wall with the Re-Edition Steel Rim, I tried shooting upward, at ceiling tiles, a moment ago, and generally viewing the Live View on my iPad through the FOTOS app. I am not seeing enough distortion to bother me, though this was not a proper test. I looked through some images, with local houses in them. None were shot at perpendicular angles, with straight lines intentionally places near the edges of images. I will try to find suitable test targets, in the next day or so. Notably, the pre-Aspherical Summilux-M 35mm lenses were notable for having low distortion. It would seem illogical for Leica to manufacture a Re-Edition with noticeably worse distortion. *For those whose first language is not English, a “guesstimate” is vernacular for a combination of “guess” and “estimate.” 😉 Edited December 17, 2023 by RexGig0
Mr.Prime Posted December 18, 2023 Share #23 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) We need a digital M without all the spec-chasing bloat and prices to go with. we are saying it, we just need Leica to swallow the pill, realise that it could cannibalise the M11 but they’ll sell many more of them. A digital M in the spirit of the film M, SIMPLE to use, cut all the crap out please. I'd take 24Mp, no nested menus, even built-in memory only is something I’d be perfectly happy with. No power hungry burst mode, video, lens corrections or other unecessary image processing - just low power with a loooong battery life. Put it all in a module that can be factory upgraded down the line and the camera becomes a long term investment again just like they used to be. I shoot my M10R on single shot mode and never go into the menu beyond the 5 things in my favorites. So I’m pretty much done with Leica bodies. I’m more curious about lenses for the M. I’m not thrilled with their new close focus lenses. Hopefully they’ll release some classic ones. I think the closest I get to things is maybe 4 feet. If so (FWIW) here is what the regular Black Paint LLL looks like on my Black Paint M-D Typ-262. I think it's a good match; Welcome, dear visitor! The thing is I’ve seen the regular LLL Black Paint tab worn out and it wears to silver instead of the brass. The glossy Black Paint wears to brass like my camera. I’m being super picky because I can get a used 35 Summicron ASPH for not that much more than the LLL, so if I’m going to spend on it then it has to be the perfect edition. If not I’ll save up for a Summicron. I asked LLL if they would restock it in glossy BP and they said Yes. But who knows. I’m not holding my breath because every time I check back the editions are just getting sold out. Except the safari because nobody wants to buy it. Other than that the silver and black are still on there. But slowly they’re all getting sold out. Edited December 18, 2023 by muskyvibes

I thought I had seen a bit of 'brassing' starting to appear on the Tab and have just this minute double-checked. Here's a snap; Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The infinity-lock 'Half-Moon / Finger-Nail' tab also looks likely to be Brass underneath the Paint. The funny thing is that when we compare original Leitz 8 Element Black-Paint lenses we find that the materials used could vary considerably. There was a thread posted somewhere here which went in to an inordinate amount of detail regarding these very rare examples of the '8-E' : it seems possible that there were fewer than 100 Black Paint made in un-goggled form. Here, though (FWIW), are two examples to look at. Both (obviously) have aluminium Tabs; it's the Infinity-Locks where the materials differ... It might be worth having another look at the LLL B-P once more to confirm what you saw earlier? Just a thought! Philip. Olaf_ZG Posted December 18, 2023 Share #30 Posted December 18, 2023 Whatever Leica will bring, my budget is limited, so I hope they will not tempt me too much 😇 2
muskyvibes Posted December 18, 2023 Author Share #31 Posted December 18, 2023 Well. LLL replied. David Yu-Heng Chen said “Yes, we do have plans on restocking the special High Gloss Edition”. So maybe I’ll add this to my list of choices.
