Robert Blanko Posted December 7, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just stumbled across the fact that a 21 APO Summicron was born some years ago for Leica‘s SL system. Holy cow! Now I hope that we will see a small sibling for the M system soon! What do you think? Is this realistic?
Advertisement Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Hi Robert Blanko, Take a look here Will we see an M 21 APO Summicron?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MaticB Posted December 7, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2023 I believe, it is possible to construct that kind of lens. But it is questionable, if it is profitable. Certainly that kind of lens would cost close to modern noctiluxs, and I wonder how many M useres are interested in. My opinion is, that 21 APO is more reasonable to SL users - and obviously Leica think the same.... at least for now.
ibramr Posted December 7, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2023 Perhaps but only if it is not larger in size than the current Summilux 21mm.
memphismonroe Posted December 24, 2023 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2023 I would love to see it!
LeicaR10 Posted December 24, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 24, 2023 (edited) Robert Blanko, The SL 21 Apo Summicron is a very recent arrival on scene; as in October 2023. It took Leica a good number of years to design and build the lens to meet the requirements. The SL 21 is a superb lens. There are images posted on the SL thread if you wish to see what that lens can do. Leica is currently working on updating a number of M lenses, but I highly doubt you will see a M 21 Apo, mainly because the current lenses are superb. There are a number of M lenses that need updating to meet current and future M system cameras such as the M 90 Apo Summicron, etc.. In the meantime, its a great time of year to let Santa and Leica elves know what you are wishing to come from their workshop...HO, HO, HO! - Merry Christmas! r/ Mark Edited December 24, 2023 by LeicaR10
